1 Job Description WASH Technician Bago WASH Program Location: Reports to: CC to : ThaNatPin, Bago East Region Program Officer -Country Office Program Manager Health Role Statement: To assist the Program Officer in improving the quality of the Health related activities in the Program. Coordinate between different sectors in the program for all WASH activities. To enable Assistant to WASH technician in building up the target communities by sharing resources and technical expertise, using participatory approaches, and enabling communities to take responsible steps to improve their future. To build up volunteers, CBOs with good facilitation, training, management and technical skills. Support the monitoring of the progress of community organizing initiatives. As much as possible, to work and live with respect, love and care for all people. A. Specific Responsibilities Under the direct and overall supervision of Program Manager Health and Program Officer, Country Office, the WASH Technician will have the following responsibilities;. Planning Help PM/PO to do need assessment to obtain necessary information for developing hygiene and sanitation activities in the program. Work with PM, PO, in the program to determine appropriate community health, nutrition and sanitation priorities in line with project aim and objectives. Give technical inputs in developing activity plan and budget to address the needs of the communities and the Volunteers in the PHC and WASH. Help Volunteers to develop monthly, quarterly activity plan for PHC and WASH related BCC activities in the communities. Give inputs for proposal writing that will include PHC and WASH related BCC in the communities. Help staff facilitate in selecting Volunteers in the villages. Planning for the Hard Ware Development.. Monitoring and Supervision. In Coordination with PM regularly visit project area to conduct meeting with Volunteers and staff. Support Assistant to WASH technician to regularly supervise and provide on the job training to, Volunteers, Water committee and monitor progress of WASH and PHC activities in the community. Submit regular reports and documents to the PM, and POs as necessary. Provide technical advice and assistance to staffs as necessary. JD (Wash Technician) Page of 3

2 Encourages staff in all aspects of work. Maintain team morale. Up hold a vision for the Program. M&E of the Hard Ware of the WASH including sanitary latrines. 3. Trainings Develop a training module and other appropriate BCC materials for the promotion of community health status together with the BCC technician. Conduct training need assessment on Hard Ware WASH activities for staff. Conduct TOT/ refresher training for volunteers and document training and follow up the results. Supervise and help staff in giving training to Volunteers. 4. Networking and Coordinating Represent WCM in coordination meeting in the areas as needed. Maintain working relationship with other government agencies and communities working committees and volunteers to encourage community participation and accountability. Establish a good communication and working relationship with other WCM staffs. Share relevant information to other WCM staffs. 5. Reporting Prepare and submit timely monthly accomplishment report. Document hygiene and sanitation best practices and/or impact of WASH activities. Prepare incident report when needed. 6. Other: Plan and conduct meetings, field visits, travel, communication, etc. as necessary to achieve the above. Keep accurate, complete, organized records of inventory, expenses, activities, community organizations, and other relevant project related data. Deal with problems and issues that emerge, as far as possible. If the issue goes beyond own mandate and/or resources, bring it to the attention of the PM. Perform any work-related duties as assigned. B. Required skills and qualifications Civil Engineering Degree. or years well experienced in public health field. B.Tech (civil) or Civil Engineering or any public health engineering background is preferred. In good mental and physical health. Good knowledge of Primary Health Care, extensive practical experience of community health. Good understanding of development issues and community mobilization. Minimum year experience in implementing PHC and BCC promotion programs in humanitarian sectors. Experience of working as part of a team. Flexibility and adaptability. JD (Wash Technician) Page of 3
