Semester: Basic knowledge in 3 fields (Photo design, Industrial Design, Communication Design) Semester : Obligatory courses in those 3 fields and electives in other design fields/subjects 5. Semester: 18-week internship in a company + two-week praxis seminar at university 6. Semester : Working on 2 major projects. 7. Semester: Bachelor thesis; Courses preparing for professional life N.B.: In each of the 7 terms, courses on design theory habe to be attended

10 Studying in Germany - Costs Tuition fees No general tuition fees Bachelor s degree programs and most Master s Degree programs are tuition-free at public universities. If tuition fees are charged, they re not as high as in other countries. Semester contribution of up to 200 per semester (administrative costs, student union contribution for student dining, sports, cultural events and a semester ticket) Studying in Germany Page 10 Private universities/business schools do charge tuition fees. Inquire about the exact cost of tuition fees at the university in question

Bachelor Master Doctorate (PhD) 2005: Germany and Taiwan sign agreement on mutual recognition of degrees! 12 Studying Design in Germany Application and Admission Admission requirements for Bachelor Courses: a) Senior High School Certificate Feststellungsprüfung/Studienkolleg b)1-year study at a college or university 1 st year university in Germany Studienkolleg = Bridging Course Taught in German Number of places is restricted Feststellungsprüfung (assessment test) after 1 year of study Studying in Germany Page 12 New regulations will be published soon!

13 Studying in Germany Language requirements Studying in Germany Page 13 Courses taught in German: TestDaF or DSH, (required level is specified by the university/course) Courses: taught in English: IELTS or TOEFL (required level is specified by the university/course) TestDaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language) 3 x year (November, April, July) in Taipei, 2x in Kaohsiung) DSH (only in Germany, administered by German universities TestDaF and DSH can be replaced by other German Language Tests (offered by the Goethe-Institut) Please check:

14 Studying Design in Germany Application: Special Requirements Apart from your academic records and language certificates almost all Design programs require, a two-stage admission test - an artistic aptitude test (portfolio /+ interview) and/or - an internship (mostly at Universities of Applied Sciences) Example: Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig Two-fold application process: - Send in portfolio with samples of your work: Show your interests and passion; your approach in solving problems. - artistic admission test (künstlerische Aufnahmeprüfung): 20-minute interview in German Studying in Germany Page 14
