1 POSITION GUIDE INSTITUTION: POSITION: REPORTS TO: LOCATION: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Executive Director, Indiana Chapter Region Vice President Indianapolis, IN MISSION The mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and families. LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatment for blood cancer patients. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients. BACKGROUND LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS has committed over $1B to research over 67 years to develop cures for all blood cancers. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services to patients and their families. When LLS was founded in 1949, a blood cancer diagnosis was almost always fatal. Thanks in part to innovative research funded by LLS, survival rates have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled for blood cancer patients. LLS key priorities include: Prioritize Research Programs: Pro-actively direct Grant and TAP programs to address specific research gaps and medical needs. Drive Advocacy & Policy Agenda: Develop a coordinated advocacy network and a robust internal policy capability that,
2 together, can influence and educate key policy decision makers on priority access issues to break down barriers. Maximize Patient Impact: Reach more patients and have greater impact through improved efficiency, urgency and effectiveness of support, education, and information delivery. Increase Awareness: Raise LLS brand awareness and engagement to drive revenue & establish LLS as the leading cancer organization driving cures & access. Improve Net Profitability: Maximize net income from existing channels through prioritization, organizational alignment and optimization of resources. Diversify Revenue: Identify and develop high-growth, highmargin revenue opportunities focusing on volunteer initiatives, e-revenue, donor development and new partner development. Enhance Organizational Performance: Assess resources, improve productivity and optimize organizational capacity. In 2015, LLS President & CEO Dr. Louis J. DeGennaro articulated a five year vision that laid the plan for the new LLS. The vision includes: 1) Give every newly diagnosed blood cancer patient with the right information at the right time. 2) Grow annual research investment to $100M. 3) Help drive the most critical cancer related legislation in Washington DC. To support all of this he laid out a five year goal to double annual revenue to $500M/year. To achieve this goal requires that each chapter within LLS proactively engage volunteers in a range of signature fundraising events. The fundraising for LLS is implemented through 57 chapters field offices across the country. THE OPPORTUNITY The Indiana Chapter has enjoyed strong and stable leadership for more than a decade. There is a dedicated and talented team of 12 who raise approximately $3M. Funds are raised through four signature events: Light the Night Walk, Man & Woman of the Year, Team in Training, and Student Series as well as an increasing focus on individual giving and major gifts cultivation. While the chapter is statewide the primary geographic focus of the chapter is Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne and South Bend. The primary source of support is generated through events which requires engaging high impact volunteers effectively in leadership roles for the chapter. The expectation to engage high level volunteers is essential for the success of the events. Growing volunteer engagement in all events is key to the future success of the Indiana Chapter. Building a pipeline for personal giving is also a key strategy. The Indiana Chapter has been very successful and has a strong internal culture that is supportive and cooperative. There is openness to building on
3 this foundation to create an increasingly collaborative team that is more goal-oriented than task oriented. The opportunity now exists to recruit an exceptional relationship builder and leader to grow the success of the Indiana chapter. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Region Vice President, this top level management position is responsible for providing overall leadership and management for fundraising strategies and operations designed to create cost effective and on-going sources of revenue growth, community outreach, volunteer expansion and engagement, and mission enhancement for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) within the chapter's chartered territory.
