1 Object of the Preposition A preposition is a word that tells how a noun or pronoun is related to another word in the sentence. It shows time (when), location and direction (where), how, and why. By: My brothers and I were playing basketball in the backyard, but we ran inside the house when we heard thunder. 2. I put my alarm clock by my bed so it would wake me up in the morning. 1 When I get a letter from my best friend, it really makes my day! 3

2 I pedaled my bike as hard as I could to get up the hill. 4 Watching a movie isn t much fun without a bag of popcorn. 6 In case of fire, use the rear exits. 5 The tiny boy walked into the elevator carrying a huge stuffed animal. 7

3 When we were waiting to buy groceries, my mom and I stood behind the lady. 8 As we walked along the shore, we discussed our future. 10 Thomas wrapped a package for his father s birthday. 9 My best friend stood beside me while we had our pictures taken for the yearbook. 11

4 The bright red and yellow kite sailed above our heads. 12 Dolly the Duck paddled slowly across the lake. 14 Shawn and Chris threw the ball back and forth over the house. 13 The shovel was leaning against the garage. 15

5 Kelvin rode his bicycle alongside the car. The tall, jolly man was dressed like a clown! 16 We paddled the canoe downstream and floated underneath the bridge When Anthony was snorkeling, he could see hundreds of fish swimming beneath the surface. 19

6 When Christina s dad gets home every day, he always places his keys upon the dresser. 20 It s a good thing Brian was wearing his helmet when he fell off of his skateboard. 22 Tony sits toward the front because he has trouble seeing the blackboard. 21 If you will look beyond the fence, you will see that there are two tigers wrestling in the sand. 23
