Blue Plums and Blue Grapes are available with promotional opportunities (for a limited time); ask your sales person! Pomegranates California Pomegranates are available now! The quality is very good with beautiful pink colour skin. Also available are Quince! Oranges We continue this week with South African fruit; all sizes are promotable! Don t forget we pack bags fresh everyday! Cara Caras from South African have arrived and they are beautiful. We also have fresh arrivals of Delta Midknights. Grapefruit We continue this week with South African fruit; supplies are now meeting demand. Clementines We have both Fortuna Mandarins from Peru and South African Nadorcotts available. The quality on both is very good. Lemons Supplies are now meeting demand but we do expect prices to start moving upward over the next few weeks. The Global demand is driving pricing up in all regions. We are also loading out of California; we have pallet lot specials in the lemon department, see your sales rep for details! Limes We have good supplies on Limes with competitive pricing. Juice Oranges 113 (smaller sizes) California Valencias are in short supply due to high demand. Watermelon Fresh arrivals from Texas are in with availability on all sizes (36, 45 & 60). Prices are expected to slowly climb this week. Cantaloupes No change this week with California Cantaloupes in full swing! Quality is very good; promote! Honeydews California fruit is in good supply and the prices are very promotable! Quality is excellent. Also available for a limited time are Hami Melons; these are very sweet with a honey-like flavour. 2
3 Blackberries No change this week; the market remains strong on California Blackberries and Guatemala product is expected over the next few weeks, pending quality. Mexican fruit will follow in late September. Raspberries California Raspberries are short this week but will continue through September. Local Raspberries are back with fresh arrivals daily. Quality is very good this year! Strawberries The market on California Strawberries is steady with good supplies this week; quality is only fair due to the heat. Local berries are expected to go through until October; no changes this week. Blueberries B.C. Blueberries will be done by the end of the week and we will transition to Peruvian product. Grapes California Grapes are in the peak of the season with lots of availability on Green, Red and Black varieties! The eating quality is excellent. Also available are sweet Red Globe grapes, Baby Sweets, Champagne & Concord Grapes. Grapes are a great back-to-school item; plan your promotion today! Avocados The avocado market in Mexico has completely changed in the last week. All sizes have increased in price and are in short supply. We expect it to remain like this for the month of September. Pineapples We will be seeing some fresh arrivals this weekend, but prices will be on the higher side. Mangoes Supplies are steady; no change. Bananas No market change. Kiwi Chilean fruit is still available, but the season is slowly coming to an end. ZESPRI product from New Zealand is far superior with lots of availability for promotions. We are expecting a bit of a shortage in the market by late September due to high demand on New Zealand fruit, so take advantage while you can. 3
4 Workers picking Green Onions at Centre Maraicher in Ste. Clotilde, QC. Vegetables Broccoli No change this week; good supplies and excellent quality on local Broccoli. Continue to offer promotions in store! Cauliflower Local Cauliflower is still a little short and supplies will be limited this week, but we have lots of product coming in from California. Pricing is very attractive with promotional opportunities. Celery Ontario and Quebec Celery is available now. The quality is excellent on both with great pricing and promotional opportunities. Zucchini Zucchini remains steady this week with only small quantities coming in from local farms. Corn Ontario Corn is coming to an end and supplies will be limited for the next 2-3 weeks. Eggplant Local Eggplants are available with excellent supplies and very good quality. A great item to promote for the next few weeks; ask your sales person! Beans No change this week; quality is excellent on both Yellow and Green varieties from Ontario. Promote! Asparagus Prices are up slightly this week due to the higher demand. Quality remains very good. Peru Asparagus should continue until January. Green Onions Quebec product is tight and the market is strong as the season is coming to an end. Coloured Peppers Ontario Coloured Peppers both Field and Greenhouse are available. Field Red, Yellow and Orange are also available in display cases. Promotional opportunities are available; ask your sales person! Iceberg Lettuce The season out of Quebec is coming to an end fairly quickly with our growers telling us product is done growing. We will have more fresh arrivals this week, but prices are much higher than where they were. Romaine Lettuce As above, Quebec product is coming to an end quickly. We expect to transition to California in the next 10 days. Hot House & Cluster Tomatoes This market is very active. Picks are down on all Greenhouse Tomatoes and prices are up. Looks like the season will come to an end earlier than normal due to the warm temperatures in the spring and summer. Field Tomatoes This market is very active and prices are up due to shortage in supply. Roma Tomatoes Ontario Field Romas will be short this week and the quality is only fair. Grape Tomatoes Greenhouse and Field Grape Tomatoes are available with no change expected. We continue to offer premium fruit packed under our Go Fresh label in Red, Yellow and Medley varieties. Promote! Specialty Tomatoes We have good supplies on all Specialty Tomatoes as well as a huge variety of lines; ask your sales rep for more information. Seedless Cucumbers Cucumbers will be very short for the next few weeks as demand exceeds supply. Picks are down and we expect the local season will come to an end a little earlier than normal. Onions No changes this week as we continue with Ontario Onions; the quality is very good with very promotable pricing. Look for these under our Go Fresh label in both 2 and 5lb bags. Ontario 10lb Red Onions will be available under the Go Fresh Label starting this week! Carrots All Carrots are now local. The Cello market has come down and we have excellent sizing on Jumbo Carrots with good pricing on both. We have now fully transitioned to New Crop Ontario White, Yellow and Red ; cartons, 10lb bags and 50lb bags. Quality is excellent and pricing is promotable; ask your sales person. Also available is Washington "A" Yukon Gold in cartons. Also available are Snoboy Baking from Washington; the quality is excellent and pricing is very competitive.
