3 OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY You will support the Step Up Manager in implementing the necessary support and intervention strategies to all target students. This involves supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. Pupil Support Assist in the overall raising of pupil standards and achievements through pastoral care, raising pupils esteem, expectations and aspirations. Work alongside the pastoral team to ensure that all pupils receive the support they require, seeking guidance from superiors where necessary. Work with individual pupils, identifying the current barriers to learning, and monitor progress towards set targets. Ensure Y10 & Y11 pupils attend the necessary lesson 6 session and monitor progression. Facilitate to process enabling pupils to meet coursework deadline dates by supporting both pupils and teaching staff. Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, giving emotional support and acting as coach, trainer, developer and motivator. Develop and deliver group seminar meetings for students with similar concerns. Provide information and advice to enable students to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance. Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance etc. Implement agreed learning activities/learning programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs. Encourage pupils to stay safe and be confident their voice will be listened to if disclosing information of significant harm, including bullying, drugs and child protection issues using the correct safeguarding procedures. Implement planned supervision of pupils out of school hours. Work with pupils, one-to-one, to encourage them to maximise their potential through a range of strategies and support programmes, e.g. use strategies which: a. Develop organisational skills and memory, b. Develop independent and collaborative working, c. Identify different learning styles, d. Improve the pupil s behaviour. e. Constantly challenge pupils to remain motivated and focused. f. Confidence building. g. Express the importance of punctuality and attendance. h. Develop skills to handling relationships. i. Develop time management skills. j. Raise Levels of attainment. k. Plan Homework and allow concerns to be raised. Support and encourage progression to post 16 by motivating students and providing relevant information. Support the social and emotional needs of pupils Assist other support staff in the day to day running of the department including covering the main room, washing up, uniform checks, breakfast, etc. Classroom Support Assist the classroom teacher with the development and implementation of IEP/Behaviour/Support/Mentoring Plans. Regularly inform staff of developments, improvements in performance and successful strategies. Administration Complete routine administrative tasks as directed by the Step Up Manager Maintain mentor records. Analysing data to identify underperformance.
4 Assist in the selection of students for the scheme. General Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop. Develop and maintain positive attitudes in pupils towards the mentoring programme - such as trust and confidence. Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others. Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Academy. Attend and participate in regular meetings in and outside of Academy. Be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of all pupils Health and Safety Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions. Continuing Professional Development Keep up-to-date and informed on changes to legislation, and roles and responsibilities, for those contributing to the delivery of the Every Child Matters agenda and New Relationship with Schools. In conjunction with the line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments in mentoring which may lead to improvements in teaching and learning. Undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the School Improvement Plan, and multi-agency requirements, taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available particularly ECM agenda, mentoring skills and pupil management. Maintain a professional portfolio of evidence to support the Performance Management process - evaluating and improving own practice. Other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by the HR Manager / Director of Business / Headteacher. Health and Safety Undergo Basic First Aid training and update courses if designated first aider. Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions. Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare. Support the School s implementation of all current statutory requirements, e.g. Disability Discrimination Act, Access to Work, Equal Opportunities, and Child Protection.
