3 How will the ProSurf Process help the SME companies? The PCB industry in Europe consist mostly of companies belonging to the category of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Large R&D funds do not exist Knowledge base is often limited to the required needs of the customers As a consequence technology development is reactive. Proactive developments and guiding customers into new and better technology can not be justified and financed The ProSurf Technology Road Map will help to develop an understanding of existing and new global technology Technology for the benefits of the European PCB industry 3

4 EIPC Activities The EIPC is also involved in writing standards for the manufacturing of Printed Circuit Boards through cooperation with The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the IPC JISSO EUROPE and JISSO International IEC, IPC and JISSO are global associations, focused on linking and harmonising standards in the electronics industry from the silicon fabrication via chip packaging, to the assembly of electronic components. The objective for these EIPC activities is to keep the members informed about changes in technology, standards and trends in the electronics industry with a focus on printed circuit boards".
