4 LINCOLN JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER There is no doubt that cancer is a serious problem right here in Kenosha. By the end of 2014, there will be an estimated 30,000 plus new cancer cases right in our backyard. Too many people continue to hear the words you have cancer, and too many lives continue to be lost. On May 30th, Lincoln Middle School Student Council and Dream Girls will be sponsoring a walk for cancer benefiting the American Cancer Society. This event will take place during the school day. Besides our students and staff, we are inviting family members, any cancer survivors from our Lincoln family and some community members to join us in celebrating life while also raising funds to help find a cure for cancer. This year we are asking that students either bring in a plain white t-shirt to decorate (in advisory or at home), purchase a t-shirt (Lincoln will be selling t-shirts) or wear an already owned shirt that is cancer related. White t-shirts to decorate are needed by May 9th in order to have time to decorate them. The day is going to start out with a breakfast in the park where donuts and juice will be available for purchase. The Walk for cancer will begin at 12:00 for 7 th graders, 1:15 for 6 th graders and 2:30 for 8 th graders. All participants will pay $3.00 to participate in the walk for cancer. Several booths will be set up outside selling concessions and various cancer related items as well as having some games and contests for the students to participate in. All proceeds from this will go to the American Cancer Society. Inside, during the weeks prior we will be selling memory bags in honor of or in memory of someone who has been affected with cancer. There will also be cancer buttons and pink ribbon sugar cookies for sale all to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Parents are invited to participate in the walk with your child s grade level and/or make a donation. Please fill out the attached form to indicate your (the parents) interest in participating or to make a donation and return to your child s advisory teacher. We are hoping for 100% participation from our students and no student will be excluded due to inability to provide a t-shirt or pay the participation fee. Please contact your child s advisory teacher if there is financial hardship. Students do not need a permission slip to participate in the walk for cancer. The week of the walk will be a school spirit week. Tuesday, May 27th wear black (skin cancer) Wednesday, May 28th wear pink (breast cancer) Thursday, May 29th wear purple (all cancers) Friday, May 30th Wear cancer t-shirt for the walk ****This section is for parents only.
