2 School Governors Year End Financial Summary 2014/2015 Our school s finance summary for the year 2014/2015 is now available to view on the governors notice board in school. If anyone wishes a copy of this statement, please call into the school office. Child Sexual Exploitation Child sexual exploitation is a hugely distressing, but fairly rare form of sexual, emotional and physical abuse of children. More information and an e-learning course is available at the following link Newsletter The monthly school newsletter will be issued to all parents as an electronic version via parentmail. This has been approved by the School Governors and also follows the current trend in other schools. There will be a few printed copies available in the reception areas of both sites. ***Grand Tour Challenge*** This summer the father of Chloe Smith in KS1 is doing a charity challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The challenge is to attempt to cycle the distance of the 2015 Tour de France (3344 kilometres or 2078 miles in old money) over as short a time as possible (aiming for 4-6 weeks) this summer. Mark will still be doing his day job which will make fitting in the miles required every day even more of a challenge, but hopefully the long evenings will help. Over her sixteen years at Heymann Mrs Mercer has been committed to taking children on residential visits, which has given children many happy memories. Her dedication and passion for teaching will be sadly missed. Mrs Underwood will also be retiring at the end of the summer term. Mrs Underwood has been teaching French at our school, from reception classes to year 6, for many years and has also run the very popular French club. (Heymann Dad & proud sponsor of Heymann Boys & Girls football teams) Both Mrs Mercer and Mrs Underwood will be sadly missed by staff, children and parents. 4 The Summer Term topic in Reception is Living and Growing. The children have enjoyed planting sunflower seeds and becoming very excited as they watch their plants grow. A big thank you to our roving reporters Abbie Morgan and Rosa King for these fantastic photographs. Page 4 Page 9

5 The sun shone and we raised over 2000 for HSA funds! A huge thank you to anyone who made a donation; hampers were fabulous, the cake stall looked yummy and the Bric-a-brac stall was very well stocked. An extra special thank you to those who volunteered & helped on the day, it wouldn't run without your support. What does actually happen with the money the HSA raise?! Well, after the triumphant KS2 Trim Trail purchase in 2014, this year the HSA have financed fabulous new computer equipment for the school increasing IT opportunities for the children in class time. Every year money is also spent on sun hats for the all the new Reception children, various in school reward schemes & clubs, school signs, and other smaller items to enhance our children's time in our school. Thank you for all your continued support. Outside the children have been busy planting strawberries, carrots and peas. We are looking forward to eating them all; especially the strawberries. As part of our topic we are finding out about different mini -beasts. Each class have their own pot of caterpillars. It is amazing how quickly they grow! The children are carefully watching the daily changes. 6 Parking May we remind all parents and carers to park with consideration at both school sites. At KS1 when possible please park on Loughborough Road and walk to school to avoid congestion on Swithland Drive. At KS2 please avoid blocking drives on Waddington Drive, Lyndhurst Gardens, Denton Drive and parking opposite the school gates. Thank you to all those who park considerately. Book Bags There will be an increase in the charge for book bags to This will take effect from June If you wish to purchase a new book bag before the price increase please call into the school office at either site. It is with great sadness that we inform you that Andrew Rootham, our keyboard teacher, passed away on Friday 15th May. Mr Rootham had been with Heymann for many years, was well respected and will be sadly missed. Raffle Prize We have an unclaimed raffle prize from the school fair. The winning ticket is blue 108 and it was for the Yellow hamper.
