1. My WIA employee insurance You work in either the MT or automotive industry. Under the collective agreement that applies to your sector, you are automatically insured by NV schade. The WIA employee insurance offered by NV schade will supplement your income if you become occupationally disabled. 1.1 What am I insured for? NV schade offers three employee insurances. The overview below explains who can be covered by these insurances. Insurance Who is it for? Your insured annual salary in 2015 is WIA Employee Insurance [WIA-werknemersverzekering] WIA Top-Up Insurance [WIA-excedentverzekering] WIA Executive Top-Up Insurance [WIA-excedentverzekering Top] Automatic cover for all employees in the MT and automotive industries. Voluntary insurance for employees with an income of between EUR 51,976 and EUR 100,000. Your employer can apply for this insurance for you. Voluntary insurance for employees with an income of between EUR 100,000 and EUR 300,000. Your employer can apply for this insurance for you. maximum of EUR 51,976 (maximum salary for social security [sociale verzekering or SV ] purposes), if an employee is 15% to 80% occupationally disabled. between EUR 51,976 (maximum SV salary) and EUR 100,000, if an employee is 15% to 100% occupationally disabled. between EUR 100,000 and EUR 300,000, if an employee is 15% to 100% occupationally disabled. Do you earn between EUR 51,976 and EUR 100,000? If so, it would be wise for you to ask your employer to purchase WIA Top-Up Insurance for you. Do you earn between EUR 100,000 and EUR 300,000? If so, it would be wise for you to ask your employer to purchase WIA Executive Top-Up Insurance for you. 6 Film: WIA-werknemersverzekering Film: WIA-excedentverzekering
1.2 What amount in premium do I pay for my WIA employee insurance? In 2015, the premium for the WIA employee insurance is 0.828% of your gross annual salary (up to a maximum of EUR 51,976). Your employer can withhold up to half of the premium from your gross annual salary. That provision is laid down in the collective agreement. Your employer will pay the entire premium to NV schade each quarter. Your gross annual salary is: if you are paid monthly: times your salary for the month of January: if you are paid every four weeks: times your salary for the second four-week period in the year in question. Good to know You will pay a reduced premium: 62 months before reaching Dutch State Pension retirement age [AOW-leeftijd]; if you become 15% to 35% occupationally disabled. You will not pay any premium: 24 months before reaching Dutch State Pension retirement age; if you receive a payment from the Employees Insurance Agency (UWV) under the Dutch Partial Capability for Work Act (WGA) or the Full Invalidity Benefit Regulations (IVA). Pay rises granted while receiving this benefit are not included in your benefit, unless you have concluded a new employment contract. Your employer will notify you of these changes. For on-call staff, the premium is calculated after the end of each quarter, based on the salary received for that quarter. The premium amounts for the WIA Top-Up Insurance and the WIA Executive Top-Up Insurance can be found on our website.
1.3 When do I become entitled to receive a benefit? The percentage of your occupational disability as established by the UWV determines whether you are entitled to receive a benefit. The diagram below shows you whether or not you are entitled to receive a benefit from the UWV and/or NV schade. Continued salary payment First six months: 100% of previous salary Last eighteen months: 90% of previous salary Application for UWV examination after 2 years 0 < 15% Occupationally disabled 15 < 35 % Occupationally disabled 35 < 80% Occupationally disabled % Occupationally disabled Temporary Permanent UWV No benefit UWV No benefit UWV WGA salary-linked benefit (0-36 months) NV schade No benefit NV schade Benefit under WIA employee insurance if: NV schade No benefit Insured on first sick day Employment contract within/outside industry Receive salary Have lost income After expiry of WGA salary-linked benefit from UWV UWV IVA benefit UWV WGA follow-up benefit or WGA supplemental salary benefit NV schade Benefit under WIA employee insurance if: Insured on first sick day and Receive WGA follow-up benefit or WGA supplemental salary benefit from UWV. 8
Definitions Percentage of occupational disability The UWV determines your percentage of occupational disability. You can calculate this percentage yourself, as follows: 1 - (new salary / old salary) * 100%. Example: Your old salary is EUR 2,500 and your new salary is EUR 900. Your percentage of occupational disability is 1 - (900 / 2,500) * 100% = 64%. Permanent Has the UWV determined that you can earn 20% or less of your previous salary? If this situation is virtually certain to continue in the future, then you will be considered as being 80% to 100% permanently occupationally disabled. In that case, you will receive an IVA benefit from the UWV. Temporary Has the UWV determined that you can earn 20% or less of your previous salary? If this situation is expected to change in the future so that you can earn more, then you will be considered as being 80% to 100% temporarily occupationally disabled. In that case, you will receive a salary-linked WGA benefit from the UWV. Continued salary payment Your employer is obliged to continue paying you your salary for the first two years of your illness. WGA salary-linked benefit [WGA-loongerelateerde uitkering] Are you entitled to receive a benefit from the UWV? If so, the first benefit you receive will likely be a salary-linked benefit. This temporary benefit is based on your previous salary, your work history, and your current salary. WGA supplemental salary benefit / WGA follow up benefit [WGA-loonaanvullingsuitkering / WGA-vervolguitkering] You will first receive a salary-linked WGA benefit from the UWV. Afterwards, you will receive a WGA supplemental salary benefit or a WGA follow-up benefit. Which benefit you receive will depend on whether you work and how much you earn from that work. The letter from the UWV will indicate which benefit you will receive. Do you have questions about these definitions, or would you like additional information? We would be glad to assist you.
1.4 How much will my potential benefit be? The percentage of your occupational disability and the amount in salary you are still earning will determine the amount of your benefit. Your benefit from NV schade if you are 15% to 35% occupationally disabled if you are 35% to 80% occupationally disabled start: pays you a supplement of: for a period of: after two years of continued salary payment OR as soon as the UWV determines that you are 15% to 35% occupationally disabled at least 70% and at most 100% of the salary you were earning on your first sick day (up to EUR 51,976) no more than 7.5 years OR less if you have reached Dutch State Pension retirement age (maximum of 67 years) after the expiry of the salary-linked benefit from the UWV at least 70% of your previous salary you have reached Dutch State Pension retirement age (maximum of 67 years) Do you also have WIA Top-Up Insurance or WIA Executive Top-Up Insurance with NV schade? You can read more about the amount of benefit received under these insurances on our website, at Working pays! This is clearly shown in the sample calculation below. Film: Uitkering aanvragen
100% 70% Supplemental salary under the collective agreement Benefit from NV Schade Continued salary payment by employer WGA salary-linked benefit from UWV (0 to 38 months) WGA follow-up benefit from UWV Income from employment 0% Years 1 and 2 Dutch State Pension retirement age Sample calculation Ronald earns EUR 2,000 per month. He becomes ill. His employer continues to pay his salary for the first two years. He is paid 100% of his salary in the first 6 months, 90% for the remaining 18 months. After two years, Ronald receives a decision from the UWV. He is 50% occupationally disabled. This means that Ronald is still able to earn EUR 1,000 per month (50% of EUR 2,000). You can use the calculator on the website at to determine the amount of the benefit from NV schade. The calculator gives a good estimate of what occupational disability can mean for your total income. Situation 1 Ronald does not work, which means he does not earn a salary. After his salary-linked benefit expires, he receives a WGA follow-up benefit of EUR 520 from the UWV. The benefit from NV schade provides pays Ronald a supplement so that he earns 70% of his previous salary. NV schade pays Ronald EUR 880. His total income is: EUR 520 (UWV)+ EUR 880 (NV schade) = EUR 1,400 (70% of his previous salary). Situation 2 Ronald starts working. He earns EUR 400 per month. The WGA follow-up benefit from the UWV continues to be EUR 520. NV schade looks at what Ronald is earning and deducts 70% of the salary he earns from the benefit NV schade is paying according to Situation 1. In Ronald s situation, this means that NV schade is paying Ronald: EUR 880 (0.7 * EUR 400) = EUR 600. The benefit from NV schade in Situation 2 is lower, but his total income is higher. Ronald s total income in Situation 2 is: EUR 520 (UWV)+ EUR 400 (NV schade) = EUR 1,520 (76% of his previous salary). Working pays! All amounts are gross. Film: Adviseur Arbeidsongeschiktheid 11
1.5 When will my insurance cover end? Have you stopped working for an employer in the MT or automotive industry? Or have you reached the Dutch State Pension retirement age? If so, your insurance cover from NV schade will end automatically. NV schade will send you a letter about this within 10 business days. This letter will state the end date of your insurance. Once the insurance is terminated, you will no longer be insured of receiving additional income from NV schade if you become occupationally disabled. Did you leave your job while are on sick leave? If so, please contact NV schade. You might have a right to a benefit (in the future). 1.6 How do I cancel my insurance? Do you want to cancel your WIA employee insurance through NV schade? If you do, you will no longer be insured of receiving additional income from NV schade if you become occupationally disabled. You can cancel the insurance in writing: within three months after becoming employed, or any given month if you have been covered by the WIA employee insurance for a period of 12 months or longer A notice of cancellation period of 1 month applies. Send a registered letter to NV schade containing the following information: your name; your employee number; the insurance(s) you want to cancel; the date starting on which you want the insurance(s) to be cancelled; your signature. 16 The insurances offered by NV schade are non-life insurances. You do not accrue entitlements. If your insurance terminates and you have not become ill, your cover lapses and you will not be entitled to receive any benefit from NV schade. are defined-benefit agreements. This means that the amount of the benefit depends on the percentage of your occupational disability and the amount of salary you are still earning. NV schade s ambition is increase benefits each year to reflect salary developments in the MT sector. It is important to NV schade that your benefit increases when salaries increase. If salaries in the MT or automotive sectors are raised by 2% or less in a given year, NV schade also increases the base for benefits. This base is the salary that you were earning on your first sick day, plus an indexation. If salaries are raised by more than 2%, then NV schade decides how much the base for benefits is increased, but that increase will be at least 2%. Each year, NV schade determines whether benefits can be increased. Would you like more information about this?
