1 Trip description 4 days along the Atlantic Coast from La Rochelle to Oléron Island Your bike trip takes you along the Atlantic Coast from La Rochelle to Rochefort. From there, you ride over the last transporter bridge of France to reach the Oléron Island, savour the oysters of Marennes and discover its long fine sand beaches. 2 You leave the beautiful city of La Rochelle taking the bike path along the Atlantic Coast, the Vélodyssée. Through fishermen s small harbours along fine sand beaches and dried up swamps, your bike ride leads you to Rochefort. Storks and herons fly away when you pass them. In Rochefort, a former royal shipyard, admire the Hermione, the three-master built with the methods of the 17th century. You take the last transporter bridge of France and continue to ride the Oléron Island. Savour a dish of Marennes oysters, your feet hanging in the water and enjoy your refreshing break. You discover the long fine sand beaches and fishermen s villages of Oléron Island before taking the boat to return to La Rochelle. DAY 1 La Roch elle Roch efort-su r-mer 42km Ride on the cycling path along the coastline through small seaside villages like Les Boucholeurs or Châtelaillon-Plage and through the marshes to Rochefort. Admire the variety of birds such as storks and herons. Rochefort, this "new city" desired by Louis XIV to build his dockyard, still exudes an atmosphere of the 17th century. You can visit the Corderie Royale, the rope factory where all the ropes for the military sailboats were made and the construction site of the Hermione, a three-masted ship rebuilt with the same techniques as in the 17th century. DAY 2 Roch efort-su r-mer - Saint-T rojan-les-bains 47km Cross the Charente River on France s last transporter bridge, now dedicated to pedestrians and bicycles. Meander along the bike paths of the marsh. Originally the marsh was covered by water so Brouage was built in the 16th century as a fortified port for the salt trade. The sea receded but Brouage with its over 2 kilometers long ramparts, its oyster port and its many buildings still tower over the marsh like a mirage. You will surely meet herons, ducks and shorebirds like the spotted redshank, but also white storks. Your cycle tour leads you through the marshes of the estuary to the island of Oleron. From the bridge, you will see Fort Boyard s magnificent silhouette near the horizon. A splendid dish of Marennes oysters could close your day perfectly. DAY 3 Saint-T rojan-les-bains 22km Take a day rest at the beach. Do not miss the huge and beautiful beach Gatseau hidden behind a pine forest. It is only accessible walking, biking or taking a small train. You can also leave for a day ride and discover the island Ile d Oléron with its small villages, oyster ports and of course its beaches and pine forests. DAY 4 Saint-Trojan-les-Bains - A short bike ride will lead you to Boyardville through oyster farms where you will embark a boat to go back to La Rochelle.

3 La Rochelle 17km This small cruise lets you admire the coastside. On clear days, you can also admire the Fort Boyard. 4 Practical information To get to departure point: By plane: flight to La Rochelle. By train: from Paris Montparnasse station, you can take a direct TGV (fast trains) to La Rochelle. The duration of the trip is about 3h15. To plan your trip, Parking If you drive to La Rochelle, you can park your car in a secured car park located in the city center: parking Saint-Nicolas (rue de la Sardinerie) or parking Verdun (place Verdun). The weekly rate is about 45. We advise you to park your car near the bike shop where you will pick your bikes. You can leave your car there for free. Meeting time: You pick up your bikes in the morning between 9.30am and 12.30pm. We recommend you to arrive around 10am to enjoy your day fully without rushing and be able to do the visits on the way. If you chose luggage transport, you must arrive before 10am to drop off your luggage. s pick up point and luggage drop off point are located next to the train station and will be given in your travel documents.
