I. Introduction If you are using the Smartboard just for projecting your presentations or in simpler term, a back draft, then you are missing the whole purpose. Smart Board is: an interactive whiteboard that enable users to play in a big touch controlled board. You can use digital ink or use your finger to drag things around and those are just some of the things that you can do with it.
II. How does it work? A smartboard is a large touch-controlled screen that works with a projector and a computer.
III. Smartboard to Desktop Connected to VGA out Connected to USB port Connected to VGA port Connected to Monitor cable Connected to VGA in VGA splitter A typical Smartboard to desktop connection A Smartboard can be connected to a desktop using a VGA splitter to enable desktop monitor and projector view at the same time.
IV. Smartboard to Laptop Connected to VGA out Connected to VGA in Connected to USB port Connected to VGA port A typical Smartboard to laptop connection A Smartboard to laptop connection is easier than the desktop connection. You don t need a VGA splitter. If connected properly, all you need to do is search the input source from your projector and in your laptop press Function+F8 (varies from every laptop brand) to switch your laptop video output mode. Ask your IT support about the key combinations on how to switch your laptop view mode.
V. Additional image reference Switch your laptop video output mode Fn + F8* It varies from every laptop brand Ask your IT support if you don t know the combination for your laptop. Search for input Source Fn + F8*
VI. How to get it working? To get started, you must ensure to check the following: 1. Check if all the connections are correct and all devices are plugged in. Please refer to III and IV for your reference. 2. Check if all the devices are on. Is the projector turned on? Can the projector detect your computer? 3. Does the Smartboard have the green light? The green light indicate that the Smartboard is connected to a computer and that the computer is turned on. If all the above conditions are met and you still cant see it working properly, please ask for technical support.
VII. Smartboard Orientation When writing on the SMART Board it should look as if the ink is coming from the pen or the end of your finger. If this is not happening then you need to orient or align the SMART Board. 1. Press the? question mark button. 2. Select Align Smartboard on the screen. 3. Using a pen, place it in the yellow dot at the center of the cross 4. Repeat it until all the crossed markers has been aligned. To change the number of Orient points, click on the SMART Board icon in the Systems Tray and select the Control Panel option. The Control Panel can also be accessed by clicking on the wrench on the SMART Board Tools panel. When you have opened the Control Panel, select the 'SMART Board Settings'. Click on the drop down arrow next to the 'Hardware Info & Settings'. Select Orientation/Alignment Settings. Select 'Standard 9 Points'. Select 20 points for more accuracy.
VIII. How to s tips and tricks 1. To avoid confusing the smartboard ensure that all the pens and the eraser are in its proper place. 2. If the pen is not writing or the writing gets cut unintentionally, try to press the pen on the board with enough pressure.
3. When you want to drag things around like what the typical mouse device does, make sure that all the pen and the eraser are in its place. Then you can use your finger to drag things around, click, open and close other applications in your computer. 4. If you want to use a right-click, press the right click button and your next click will be a mouse right click. Press it again to return to the normal left click mode.
5. When presenting on PowerPoint, tap the screen twice to move to the next slide. 6. Tap the screen twice with the second tap positioned to the right of the first tap to go to the next slide. 7. Tap the screen twice with the second tap positioned to the left of the first tap to go to the previous slide. 8. You can also use the arrow buttons to move back and fort to your slide.
9. Use the Smartboard notebook application that works like a flipchart. You can find it in the first icon of the smartboard task pane. * If you don t know how to use notebook, ask IT for assistance.
10.You can record your presentation and save it as a video clip. This is very helpful if you are going to send a copy of your presentation to people who missed it. 11.You can play your pre-recorded presentation by clicking the 3 rd icon from the top.
12.Use the built in keyboard application so that you don t have to leave the screen to type something.
13.You can do a hand writing recognition if you want to change your hand writing to a type written words. 14.Edit your hand written text after text recognition

You can only get use to smartboard by using it regularly. If you can manage to get it working, the rest is self explanatory. If you wish to learn more about notebook and how to record your presentations, please contact IT support for additional tutorials. An actual demonstration can explain it better. End of presentation
