Note: Drivers need to be installed on each computer that is tethered. 1. Download the Samsung Acclaim Android drivers from and save the downloaded file to your desktop. Result: The drivers file saves to the specified location. 2. Double-click the installation file. Result: The installation wizard launches. 1

2 3. If a security warning dialog box displays, click Run. On the installation wizard, click Next. Result: The next page of the installation wizard displays. 4. Select the primary language and country, then click Next. Result: The next page of the installation wizard displays. 2

3 5. Click Install. Result: A setup progress bar shows the percent completion of the installation, then a successful installation dialog box displays. 6. Click Exit to close the dialog box and complete the installation. 3

4 Enabling Dial Up Networking on the r880 To enable dial up networking on the r880, complete the following steps. 1. On the r880, pull up the Menu tab, then tap Settings > Wireless & networks. > Result: The settings for wireless connections and networks display. 2. On the Wireless & network settings page, enable dial up networking: Scroll to the Dial Up Networking option and enable the check box. On the notification that displays, tap OK. > Result: The notification box closes. 3. Press the Home button on the r880 keypad to return to the home screen. 4

5 Creating the Network Connection To create the dial up networking connection on the tethered computer, complete the following steps. Note: Some versions of Windows may require slight differences in these steps, but a network connection is required for a tethered device. 1. Plug the r880 into the computer, then launch the network connections window using ONE of the following methods: Click Start > Connect To > Show all connections. OR If the Connect To option is not available, select Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Result: The Network Connections window displays. 2. Double-click the New Connection Wizard icon. Result: The New Connection Wizard launches. 5

6 3. On the New Connection Wizard window, click Next. 4. Select Connect to the Internet, then click Next. 5. Select Set up my connection manually, then click Next. 6

7 6. Select Connect using a dial-up modem, then click Next. 7. Select Modem-Samsung Mobile Modem#4 (Comxx), then click Next. Note: The R880 must be attached to the computer for this option to display. 8. In the ISP Name field, type a desired name for the connection, such as Tethered r880, then click Next. 7

8 9. If the Connection Availability page displays, select the appropriate option, then click Next. Select one. Note: If you select Anyone s use, other users could potentially connect to your ISP using your username and password. 10. Complete the authentication fields as follows: In the User name field, type your ten-digit mobile number, In the Password, and Confirm password fields, type the Mobile System Identification Number (MSID). Note: USCC can provide the MSID upon request when customers add the tethering data package. Remove the check marks from the two check boxes. Click Next. Result: The last page of the New Connection Wizard displays. 8

9 11. Verify that the displayed settings are correct, then click Finish. Result: The newly created connection displays in the Network Connections window, and a Connect dialog box launches, ready for first connection. Using the Tethered Modem Connection To use the tethered modem connection, complete the following steps. 1. Launch the connection window using ONE of the following methods: Complete the Creating a Network Connection procedure if a tethered modem network connection does not already exist. If the network connection exists, double-click the connection icon. Result: The settings for wireless connections and networks display. 9

10 2. To connect: In the User name field, type your ten-digit mobile number, In the Password field, type the Mobile System Identification Number (MSID). Note: USCC can provide the MSID upon request when customers add the tethering data package. Click Dial. Result: If configured correctly, the tethered r880 provides internet access. 10
