TYPES OF COVERING 150 SHEET VINYL FLOORING - GENERAL - Drawing: Location: All areas. - Base: As H31/ Preparation: As recommended by manufacturer. - Fabricated underlay: As recommended by manufacturer. - Flooring roll: Homogenous PVC to BS EN Manufacturer: Altro. Product reference: Unity Thickness: 2.5mm. - Colour/ pattern: TBA. - Adhesive (and primer if recommended by manufacturer): As recommended by manufacturer. - Seam welding: Colour matched rods to all joints. - Accessories: - - Finishing: Do not polish. - Other requirements: Installed to HTM61, under layment as M50/460, 150mm coved skirtings with sealant bead to junction with wall protection/capping. - Allow for latex levelling screed to all areas. - Allow for 2 colours to general vinyl floor areas (only one colour used per room i.e. no split rooms). 151 SHEETING GENERAL WALL PROTECTION - Drawing: Location: All areas indicated on drawing Manufacturer: Gerflor Ltd, Tel: Product reference: Decorative Protection Panel - SPM Decochoc Panels. - Size: 3000x1300x2mm. - Finish/Colour: Class O fire rated pvc / Client to advise - Surface: Lightly textured. - Fixing: Adhesive bonding with Gerflor acrylic glue to Manufacturer s recommendations. - Other requirements: - Panels to be cut carefully and neatly around the door openings, sockets, window openings etc, as necessary. - Different colour feature panels to lift lobby areas at all floor levels. Curved feature colour panels up 2100mm high in some lobby areas where noted. - Allow for standard Decochoc corner protectors as indicated on finishes drawings - Allow for diminishing strip to base of wall protection. Wall protection adhered to diminishing strip to provide gap for vinyl flooring. Vinyl flooring tucked up under edges of wall protection. Allow for altro capping strip to vinyl skirting in areas without wall protection. - Allow for door protection to match wall sheeting see door schedule and elevations. Page 1 of 5

2 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 210 WORKMANSHIP GENERALLY - Base condition after preparation: Rigid, dry, sound, smooth and free from grease, dirt and other contaminants. - Finished coverings: Accurately fitted, tightly jointed, securely bonded, smooth and free from air bubbles, rippling, adhesive marks and stains. 220 SAMPLES - Covering samples: Before placing orders, submit representative sample of each type. 230 CONTROL SAMPLES - General: Complete areas of finished work in approved locations as follows, and obtain approval of appearance before proceeding: All items. 250 LAYOUT ROLL MATERIALS - Setting out of seams: Agree setting out for sheeting types M50/ LAYOUT SEAMS IN ROLL MATERIALS - Setting out: Minimize occurrences of seams and cross seams. - Cross seams: Not permitted in following locations: Within 300mm of all doorways. 270 EXTRA MATERIAL - Provision of extra material: At completion, hand to Employer extra material of each type of covering to extent of 2-5% of area. 330 COMMENCEMENT - Required condition of works prior to laying materials: - Building is weathertight and well dried out. - Wet trades have finished work. - Paintwork is finished and dry. - Conflicting overhead work is complete. - Floor service outlets, duct covers and other fixtures around which materials are to be cut are fixed. - Notification: Submit not less than 48 hours before commencing laying. 340 CONDITIONING - Prior to laying: Condition materials by unpacking and separating in spaces where they are to be laid. Maintain resilient flooring rolls in an upright position. Unroll carpet and keep flat on a supporting surface. - Conditioning time and temperature (minimum): As recommended by manufacturer with time extended by a factor of two for materials stored or transported at a temperature of less than 10 C immediately prior to laying. 350 ENVIRONMENT - Temperature and humidity: Before, during and after laying, maintain approximately at levels which will prevail after building is occupied. - Ventilation: Before during and after laying, maintain adequate provision. 3 PREPARING BASES 410 NEW BASES - Suitability of bases and conditions within any area. - Commencement of laying of coverings will be taken as acceptance of suitability. 420 EXISTING BASES - Notification: Before commencing work, confirm that existing bases will, after preparation, be suitable to receive coverings. - Suitability of bases and conditions within any area. - Commencement of laying of coverings will be taken as acceptance of suitability. 430 NEW WET LAID BASES - Base drying aids: Not used for at least four days prior to moisture content testing. - Base moisture content test: Carry out in accordance with BS 5325, Annexe A or BS 8203, Annexe A. - Locations for readings: In all corners, along edges, and at various points over area being tested. - Commencement of laying coverings: Not until all readings show 75% relative humidity or less. 440 SUBSTRATES TO RECEIVE THIN COVERINGS - Trowelled finishes: Uniform, smooth surface free from trowel marks and other blemishes. Abrade suitably to receive specified floor covering material. 460 SMOOTHING/ LEVELLING UNDERLAYMENT COMPOUND - Type: High load acrylic suitable for hospital bed/trolley traffic. - Manufacturer: Contractor to propose. - Product reference: Contractor to propose. 470 BASES FROM WHICH EXISTING FLOOR COVERINGS HAVE BEEN REMOVED - Substrate: Clear of covering and as much adhesive as possible. Skim with smoothing underlayment compound to give smooth, even surface. LAYING COVERINGS 620 COLOUR CONSISTENCY - Finished work in any one area/ room: Free from banding or patchiness. 640 ADHESIVE FIXING GENERALLY - Adhesive type: As specified, as recommended by covering/ underlay manufacturer, or as approved. - Primer: Type and usage as recommended by adhesive manufacturer. - Application: As necessary to achieve good bond. - Finished surface: Free from trowel ridges, high spots caused by particles on the substrate, and other irregularities. 650 SEAMS - Patterns: Matched. - Joints: Tight without gaps. 670 BORDERS/ AND FEATURE STRIPS IN SHEET MATERIAL Page 3 of 5

4 - Curl: Not acceptable. - Corners: Mitre joints. 680 SEAM WELDING COVERINGS - Commencement: At least 24 hours after laying, or after adhesive has set. - Joints: Neat, smooth, strongly bonded, flush with finished surface. 680A SEAM WELDING: - Do not commence welding of coverings until a minimum of 24 hours after laying or until adhesive has completely set. - Cut groove, 3 mm wide by 2/3 the depth of material, evenly along each joint using: - Altro hand grooving tool or - Automatic grooving machine fitted with diamond blade. - Hot-weld using hot air welding gun (fitted with high speed welding nozzle) and Altro welding rod. Select colour of rod to match floor covering. Cut off surplus weld rod with spatula. Do not chemical weld. - Form a neat, smooth, strongly bonded joint, flush with finished surface. 720 DOORWAYS - Joint location: On centre line of door leaf. 770 SKIRTINGS - Coved flooring as M50/150, M50/151 & M771A. - Fixing: Secure with top edge straight and parallel with floor. - Corners: Mitre joints. 771A SELF-COVED SKIRTINGS - GENERAL: - Cove former: Altro 38R. Securely bond to base and background. - Turn flooring material up wall and securely bond to cove former and background, with top edge straight. Accurately mitre at corners. Height: to 150mm (tucked 20mm behind wall protection sheet) Top edge: top edge tucked behind wall protection and sealed. Or sealed to skirting capping where no wall protection Seal with silicone (Ref: A803 clear). All to manufacturer s recommendations. Use Altro concealed wall / floor transition strip (Ref: G835) with overlap detail to allow for future ease of removal / replacement of vinyl. - Adhesive: Altrofix 25NF. - Hot weld joints and mitred corners with matching Altro welding rod. Do not chemical weld. - Cove reducer to be formed on site at all doorways and mat wells etc. 780 TRAFFICKING AFTER LAYING - Covering types: Non staining solid sheeting with taped joints. - Traffic free period: As recommended by adhesive and underlayment manufacturers with a minimum of: 24hrs foot traffic, 7 days trolley traffic, scaffolding and towers. COMPLETION 820 FINISHING SHEET FLOORING - Cleaning operations: Page 4 of 5

5 - Wash floor with water containing neutral (ph 6 9) detergent. If necessary, lightly scrub heavily soiled areas. - Rinse with clean water, removing surplus to prevent damage to adhesive. Allow to dry. - Emulsion polish: Two coats of a type recommended by covering manufacturer. 880 WASTE - Spare covering material: Retain suitable material for patching. On completion submit pieces for selection. Hand over selected pieces to Employer. Page 5 of 5
