1 NOTE: You can use these instructions to configure instructor and student machines. Software Required Microsoft Access 2003, 2007 or 2010 MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise (9.4.1) Microsoft SQL Express 2008 R2 (free from Microsoft) NOTE: All instructions are written for Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System. The paths and steps will differ if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 8. Ensure all required MicroStrategy products are installed by following the installation instructions. Transfer Microsoft Access Database to SQL Server Express 2008 R2 1. On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, and select Import and Export Data (32-bit) 2. In the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard window, click Next. 3. In the Choose a Data Source window, for the Data source drop-down list, select Microsoft Access. 4. Under the File name box, click Browse. 5. Browse to the following folder C:\Program Files (x86)\microstrategy\tutorial Reporting and select TUTORIAL_DATA_7200.mdb. 6. In the Choose a Destination window, for the Server name field, type your SQL Server name (machine name\sqlexpress). 7. Under Authentication, select either Window Authentication or SQL Server Authentication. Page 1

2 NOTE: If you choose SQL Server authentication then enter the username as sa and the appropriate password. 8. Under Database, click New. 9. In the Create Database window, in the Name box, type Tutorial_Warehouse. 10. Click OK. 11. Click Next. 12. In the Specify Table Copy or Query window, select Copy data from one or more tables or views. 13. Click Next. 14. In the Select Source Tables and Views window, select all tables. 15. Click Next. 16. In the Run Package window, select Run immediately. 17. Click Next. 18. Click Finish. NOTE: It will take some time to export all the data. NOTE: Once all the tables are imported, a message displays that The execution was successful. 19. Close the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. Page 2

3 Verify SQL Server Database 1. On the Windows Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, and select SQL Server Management Studio. 2. In the Connect to Server window, make sure the correct Server name is selected (machine name\sqlexpress). 3. In the Authentication drop-down list select either Window Authentication or SQL Server Authentication. NOTE: If you choose SQL Server authentication then enter username as sa and the appropriate password. 4. Click Connect. 5. In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, expand your SQL Server. 6. Expand the Databases folder. NOTE: You should see the new Tutorial_Warehouse database. 7. Expand the Tutorial_Warehouse folder. 8. Expand the Tables folder. 9. Right-click the LU_CUSTOMER table and select Select Top 1000 Rows. NOTE: You should see that records related to customer data return. This is a good indication that the tables and the data were exported correctly. 10. Exit from SQL Server Management Studio. Page 3

4 Create ODBC DSN to SQL Server Database 1. Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW Double-click the odbcad32.exe application. 3. Click on the System DSN tab. 4. Click Add. 5. Select the SQL Server driver and click Finish. 6. In Create a New Data Source to SQL Server Window, in the Name box, enter the following as the data source name: SQL Server Tutorial WH. 7. In the Server box, type the appropriate SQL Server machine (Your Machine Name\SQLEXPRESS). 8. Click Next. 9. Under How should SQL Server verify the authenticity of the login ID, select the appropriate option. NOTE: If you choose With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user; then enter username and password for SQL Server authentication (Login ID: sa; Password: ). 10. Click Next. 11. Select the Change the default database check box. 12. In the drop-down list, select the Tutorial_Warehouse database. 13. Click Next. 14. Click Finish. Page 4

5 15. Click Test Data Source. 16. Click OK. NOTE: The SQL Server ODBC Data Source Test window should state Tests Completed Successfully. Click OK. 17. In the ODBC Microsoft SQL Server Setup window, click OK. 18. In the ODBC Data Source Administrator window, click OK. Page 5
