2 Tip 1: Keep Your Accounts Up-To-Date There s nothing worse than an account that hasn t been updated in months or years. This is especially true for B2C companies. What happens if customer posts are ignored? How will you drive people interested in your product to your web site?
3 Tip 2: Use More Pictures 87% Interaction Rate Did you know pictures increase engagement? A report published on emarketer* in March 2014 found that photos are also the most engaging type of content on Facebook, eliciting an 87% interaction rate from fans. *
4 Tip 3: Talk To Your Fans Posting is not the same as engaging. Add value by interacting with your fans! Get a conversation going with other people and businesses in your community. Tip: Did you know Twitter tweets are indexed* by Google, bolstering your SEO efforts? *
5 Tip 4: Create Different Kinds of Content 30% Of the Facebook NewsFeed is prioritized for video by Facebook s algorithms* Pictures are great for engagement, but so is video! Use a short video to show how to do something or show off your business human side. Many social media apps, for example Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, already have native tools for creating short videos. *
6 Tip 5: Know Your #Hashtags Don t lose business over a hashtag blunder. Incorrectly using a hashtag or emoji can land you in hot water. Just ask the marketing teams at IHOP* or the former digital communications manager for the Houston Rockets**. * **
7 Tip 6: Develop a Social Media Calendar A social media calendar can help you plot out when your posts will go live. A calendar can also help you look back at when you posted content so that you don t over use it or run it too soon after its initial posting. Tip: Use tools like HubSpot or Buffer.com to automate your posting.
8 Tip 7: Choose the Right Platform If your company is a B2B business, LinkedIn is the most popular and effective social media platform. If your company is B2C, Facebook is most popular. It s important to make sure you invest your time and effort in the right places*. *
9 Tip 8: Use Statistics See what s working or isn t working with analytics. Google Analytics can show you what social network brought traffic to your site and how much of it. Tip: Use the free analytics tools that come native with your social media platforms.
10 Tip 9: Shorten Your URLs Make room for more of what you want to communicate by using a URL shortener to avoid long URLs. Tip: Bit.ly is a popular tool for shortening URLs, but there are others, such as Google s shortening service, goo.gl*. *
11 Tip 10: Have Fun! Social media can be a frustrating chore if you can t engage people in a helpful and friendly fashion. Let your team post more than just product information, let them talk about your product or service using fun, relevant real-world examples and a lighter, friendlier tone.
