5 Community College Your Path to a Bachelor s Degree The California Community College system is the largest system of higher education in the world. Transfer students who come to University of California (UC) perform well, persisting and graduating at rates similar to students who enter as freshman. The average time to-degree for transfer students is just over 2 years (2.4) after coming to the University (average time for freshman is 4.2). Transfer students continue to be a successful part of the UC community. Transfer students from community colleges to the University of California account for 48% of UC s bachelors' degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. (STEM) California Community Colleges are open to everyone. Requirements needed to attend are: High school diploma or GED 18 years of age** **Concurrent enrollment opportunities are available for students in grades K-12.

6 California Community Colleges offer the lower division courses needed to obtain a Bachelor s degree, the same courses generally taken in the first two years at any 4-year university. Upon transferring to either a CSU or UC, Community College Transfers obtain a Grade Point Average (GPA) equal to, or better than native UC or CSU students and graduate at rates comparable to native UC and CSU students. *Community College League of California (July 2015)
