2 Levine Children s Hospital is a 234-bed state-of-the-art pediatric hospital in Charlotte, NC on the campus of Carolinas Medical Center.

3 Each parent or caregiver must stop at the reception desk in the lobby and have an identification badge made to ensure the safety of our patients.

4 Welcome to the pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation unit! We are located on the 4 th floor of Levine Children s Hospital.

5 Our rehab team consists of a board-certified pediatric rehabilitation physician, nurse practitioner, pediatric physical, occupational and speech therapists, rehabilitation certified nurses, recreational therapists, a pediatric neuropsychologist, a cognitive education specialist (school teacher), child life specialists, nutrition experts, social work/discharge planner and many more.

6 We have 13 private rooms designed for the comfort of our patients and families. The couch converts into a single bed to allow a family member or caregiver to room in with the patient.

7 Our patients are encouraged to personalize their rooms. It is their home away from home!

8 Each patient has a schedule board in his or her room that displays their daily schedule. The schedule is updated each afternoon for the next day.

9 Patients and families can stay connected with their care team through an interactive system on the room televisions. This can be used to communicate directly with staff and can be used for educational information. It can also be used for fun activities such as surfing the internet, watching movies, listening to music and playing video games.

10 Each morning our medical team checks in on every patient.

11 Our skilled and compassionate nursing staff provides care 24 hours a day to ensure patient comfort and coordinated care among all specialties.

12 Our therapy gym features every type of equipment you can imagine and, most importantly, the healing touch of our therapists.

13 One unique piece of equipment in the gym is our functional electrical stimulation (FES) bike. Electrical current stimulates nerves to create muscle contractions. This helps maintain muscle bulk, increase circulation and relax muscle spasms.

14 Our playroom also offers a variety of treatment tools. Of course therapy is always disguised as play!

15 Our ceiling track gait system allows our patients to walk and perform high level balance and coordination activities without the fear of falling.

16 In addition, we have access to a robotic-assisted gait training system to help patients re-learn to walk.

17 Our speech therapy team works to regain communication, swallowing, memory and cognitive skills.

18 All school-age children attend school with our cognitive education specialist who also assists our patients with school reintegration upon discharge.

19 Our patient/family dining room is used to retrain daily lifestyle skills such as cooking and cleaning. It is also a great place to gather with friends and family or grab a cup of coffee.

20 Our quiet room allows our therapists to work with patients in a quiet environment with minimal distractions. The room is equipped with sensory stimulation equipment and offers a two-way mirror to allow parents to observe treatment.

21 Our therapeutic recreation team helps our patients find activities that they enjoy and adaptive ways to enjoy them.

22 We host a weekly music therapy group a favorite activity for patients, families and staff.

23 Each Friday afternoon everyone gathers in the gym for Friday Finale. This is one party you don t want to miss!

24 We have access to state-of-the-art technology and adaptive equipment to increase independence and quality of life.

25 Our teen room is equipped with video game systems, an air hockey table, a foosball table and a large flat-screen TV.

26 The mission of Levine Children s Hospital is to partner with families to provide excellent healthcare in a family-centered care environment. We encourage family/caregiver participation during all activities.

27 For your convenience, our family lounge has comfortable couches, a large flat-screen TV, computers with internet access and a microwave.

28 The outdoor Discovery Garden is located on the 12 th floor. It is an interactive outside space for playing, watching movies or playing games on the television.

29 An exciting addition was added to the Levine Children s Hospital lobby in the summer of 2013: Seacrest Studios, an in-house multimedia broadcast center. The studio has a full-time program director and programming includes game shows, celebrity interviews and performances. Patients also have the opportunity to be disc jockeys and the studio programming is broadcast to patient rooms via closed-circuit televisions to ensure that all patients can participate in the fun.

30 Just across the street from the hospital there is a serene walking trail. It is a great place to get some fresh air.

31 Our Family Resource Library is located on the 2 nd floor of Levine Children s Hospital. We have an array of resources on a wide variety of health topics.

32 You will also find our chapel on the 2 nd floor. This nondenominational chapel is designed to provide families a peaceful space suitable for reflection, quiet meditation or prayer.

33 Aside from our large cafeteria, our medical complex also offers many other dining options.

34 Located approximately half a mile from Levine Children s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House can provide a home away from home for families of children being treated at Levine Children s Hospital. The house provides not only a comfortable place to rest but also an extended network of support and connection to others going through similar hardships. 35 Our rehabilitation program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for Inpatient Rehabilitation - Pediatric Specialty Programs. To earn accreditation, our program demonstrated that we maintain the highest measurable standards and accountability.
