1 ESPN RANKS TEMPE FOURTH BEST COLLEGE TOWN IN AMERICA!! GENERAL INFORMATION ASU s Barrett Honors College is ranked as the #1 honors college in the country (yes ahead of Stanford, Yale, and Harvard). ASU was noted by Newsweek as one of the 12 Hottest and Trendiest Schools in the country for Guidance counselors from high schools nationwide ranked ASU as one of the top 5 (Duke, Stanford, New York Univ. and Florida State are the others) universities in the country (Newsweek 2002). ASU s Tempe campus has the nation s largest enrollment on a single campus at 51,612 students. ASU is ranked in the top 77 universities in the Western Hemisphere and in the top 152 worldwide by the Institute of Higher Education. ASU Athletic facilities are ranked among some of the best in the country. Tempe plays host to hundreds of popular venues annually such as the AVP Beach Volleyball Tour, concerts, festivals, and Broadway shows. Tempe is the home of historical Mill Avenue, which boasts trendy restaurants, shopping, and nightlife.

3 Sydney Donahue tied the Pac-10 Digs record during the 2006 ASU Sun Devil Classic with 50 Digs in 3 games against LMU. Brad Saindon has coached in 598 International Volleyball Matches Current ASU head coach Brad Saindon directed the Australian women's national team from a world ranking of No. 40 in May 1997 to a world ranking of No. 14 after placing 9th at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Saindon also served as an assistant coach under head coach Bill Neville from for USA Volleyball. Saindon was again named the first assistant coach for the USA Men s National team from Brad Saindon built the volleyball program at The University of Colorado from scratch, earning a national ranking 45 times during his tenure. The 1993 squad finished with a 26-6 record, winning both the Big 8 regular season title and the conference tournament. The Buffalos advanced to the Sweet 16 and Saindon earned his third Big 8 Coach of the Year award. ASU Assistant Coach, Mike Wall, was the MVP of the final four in 2001 beating UCLA for the NCAA National Championship. By the time Wall s career at BYU was finished he won two NCAA Championships, was a two time First Team All American, and played for the USA Men s National Team for two years. Mike Wall helped both St. Mary s College and UC San Diego to record seasons in his first two years coaching college volleyball. St. Mary s started the 2004 season ranked out of the top 50, and finished ranked #10 after beating five Pac-10 Teams, including Stanford twice. In 2005 Wall helped the University of Utah win the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Utes went to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with three freshmen in the starting lineup. If history is an indication of future performance, ASU s new coaching staff will achieve greatness in the coming years! The ASU strength and conditioning facility was ranked #1 in the country by Sports Illustrated in Five of the last five NCAA Volleyball Championships have been won by Pac-10 Schools. In Division I-A athletics, ASU was ranked #5 nationally and #1 in Pac-10 for most Academic All-Americans since ASU s athletic department finished the season No. 11 in the U.S. Sports Academy Directors Cup standings for overall sports excellence. By the end of the year, 18 of 22 sports at ASU participated in postseason competition.
4 ASU had 18 Pac-10 individual champions and seven Pac-10 conference players of the year in For the past four years, ASU has been in the top seven in the country and No. 1 in the Pac-10 for most Academic All-Americans. Twenty-one percent (110) of all ASU student-athletes were named to their respective Pac-10 all-academic teams in Twelve ASU student athletes earned academic All-American honors in During , 65 percent (335) of all ASU student-athletes earned a 3.0 or above term or cumulative GPA. Thirty-nine student-athletes had a fall or spring semester GPA of 4.0. Eight have 4.0 cumulative GPAs. INTERESTED IN BECOMING A SUNDEVIL? Assistant Coach Mike Wall at mike.wall@asu.edu ACADEMICS Every athletic team at ASU is assigned an academic coach. These coaches help our athletes register for classes, organize tutors, and ensure that they are in line for graduation. These coaches are also in contact with each athletes professors in order to ensure success. Our student athletes are provided with private computer labs, free tutors, free advising, and pretty much any other academic support services that you can think of. All freshman athletes at ASU are required to attend the freshman year experience course. This is a class taught by our athletic directors to front
5 load our student athletes with as much information as possible. Topics such as the media, communication, travel, academic advice, drug prevention etc are discussed. ASU is a powerhouse in academic scholarship, consistently producing more winners of the most prestigious awards than almost any other public university. Since 1992, only Harvard and Yale have had more students selected for USA Today s ranking of the nation s top 20 undergraduates. ASU s Honor College - Top 8 in the country 100% acceptance rate to medical and law schools Since 1994, three ASU students have won Rhodes Scholarships, and 10 have been awarded Marshall Scholarships. ASU has been named a Truman Honor Institution for having 13 Truman Scholarship winners since ASU students record of winning Fulbright Fellowships is double the national average. In , ASU led the country with a record 13 National Security Education Program David L. Boren Scholarship recipients. ASU ranks fourth nationally among public schools and 12th overall for the number of National Merit Scholars enrolled. ASU ranks in the top 20 for National Merit Scholars, along with Harvard, Stanford, Yale, UC Berkeley, MIT and Princeton. ASU has 1,732 freshmen in the top 10 percent of their high school class, more than Harvard, Yale, Princeton or Stanford.
6 COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS ASU has nationally ranked programs in business, engineering, education, fine arts and other fields. ASU s Barrett Honors College was named Best of America by the editors of Reader s Digest in The W. P. Carey School of Business is in the top 10 nationally for number of faculty with doctoral degrees. The W. P. Carey School of Business is in the top 10 percent nationally for quality of faculty research. The W. P. Carey School of Business has five departments in the top 20 rankings of U.S. News and World Report: supply chain management (No. 3), information systems (No. 15), accounting (No. 16), marketing (No. 18), management (No. 19). The W. P. Carey School of Business is one of the nation s largest business schools, with 160 tenured and tenure-track faculty. The W. P.
