4 About the project EO2HEAVEN ( contributes to a better understanding of the complex relationships between environmental changes and their impact on human health. The multidisciplinary and userdriven project approach focused on the effect of atmospheric pollution (in case studies in Durban / South Africa and Saxony / Germany) and the waterborne disease cholera (in a case study in Uganda). Public health stakeholders and practitioners were actively involved in the project activities and worked with technology and service providers in the areas of Earth observation (EO) and environmental monitoring. As a result of this collaboration, EO2HEAVEN designed and developed methodologies, correlation models, spatial data services (using OGC Standards) and applications supporting the main activities involved in environmental health. EO2HEAVEN contributed best practices and proof of concept implementations to GEOSS pilot activities. EO2HEAVEN has strong interactions with the GEO Community of Practice Health and Environment and led the SBA health activities in the GEO Architecture Implementation Pilot phase 5 (AIP-5). Specific systems and generic components were realised aiding decision-making across the health and environmental domains. A special emphasis was placed on achieving sustainability through capacity building in stakeholder and user training workshops in Uganda, South Africa and Germany. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union FP7 under Grant Agreement (Project EO2HEAVEN). EO2HEAVEN started on 1st February 2010 with a duration of three years and four months. The allocated European Commission funding is approx. Euro 6.3 million. 6 1 Glossary The glossary of terms used in this deliverable can be found in the public document EO2HEAVEN_Glossary_of_Terms.doc, also available at the following link: 2 Executive Summary This deliverable describes the development of training materials for the second series of training workshops that took place in Uganda and South Africa on 5-15 February 2013, consisting in a series of presentations that were given during the workshops and which can be used now by stakeholders remotely and in the subsequent workshops. The materials of all project workshops are made available on a Blackboard platform. Further information on the materials developed for the first series of training workshops can be found on the previous report of training materials (EO2HEAVEN deliverable D6.4 On-line Training materials, available at 3 On-line training materials EO2HEAVEN puts a strong emphasis on capacity building by training. The only way to enable a sustainable uptake of results and the acceptance and use of developed methodologies and tools is seen in the early training of potential stakeholders. This is done by a combination of organizing stakeholder training workshops and publication of training materials. To give the capacity building a longer life span, workshop materials are put in a format of distance education (e-learning), which allows more people to interact within the training period, over a longer period, and which normally widens the audience. Online software tools are made available as part of the training, so that also practitioners get a better grip on the project results. 4 Materials of the Workshops Uganda and South Africa 5-15 February 2013 As preparation for the stakeholder training workshops held in South Africa during 5-15 February, a collection of presentation and exercises was developed (see also deliverable D6.8 Training and Stakeholder Workshops, issue 2). The workshop participants were provided with a binder containing EO2HEAVEN project info, workshop program, participant list, presentation hand outs and hands-on exercises. In addition, these materials are made available on-line on the workshop web site together with screen cast videos of software demos and reports of breakout sessions held during the workshop. The workshop web site is based on the Blackboard platform and can be accessed as follows: 1. Enter the web address into your web browser. 2. Login into Blackboard with: username: ps_trainee; password: pretdurb1 (Please do not forward this information to others outside the workshop) 3. Click on EO2Heaven Workshop under My Modules on the right hand side. 4. View general workshop information and workshop documents by clicking on resp. the Workshop Info and Documents button in the panel on the left hand side.
