Leading the development of new primary care delivery that supports General Practice to work together to deliver improved care to people both locally and nationally. BICS is a not for profit social enterprise operating as a private company limited by shares, where the shareholders are local GPs, practice managers, practice nurses, and our own staff. JOB PURPOSE This role will be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of BICS endeavours as an organisation. The role holder will be responsible for key workstreams that support the organisation to achieve its goals and purpose and fulfil its business plan. The role holder will play a pivotal role in the development of strategy and implementation of our organisation and will be coopted to the Board. The Director will work with and support the Operational and Clinical Directors to shape, influence and deliver the goals and objectives of the work within the portfolio whilst also supporting the whole organisation to achieve its aims and objectives. The role holder will work with staff, managers and

2 stakeholders to support the delivery of new services. They will be responsible for the development and promotion of services which maximise the opportunities to promote the reputation of BICS, the shareholders and organisation as leaders in quality and innovation. They will also work with an extended team of clinicians and managers across the NHS and wider to support the development of the organisation in achieving its purpose, aims and goals, including developing our contribution to the local health community and other health communities. Specifically they will focus on Leading, with support of the Clinical Lead, the implementation of our primary care collaboration programme and co creation with our local health community partners of our integrated care provider solutions. Programme and project management of our primary collaboration and primary care service to other health communities outside of Brighton and Hove Bringing programme management and project management capacity into the organisation, training and teaching others. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Strategic Leadership The role will contribute to the strategic development of the organisation, working collaboratively with the Executive and Non Executive team to shape the future success of BICS, ensuring business planning and strategy development within their workstreams and teams, and a cascade process for deriving individual objectives for their staff. As a senior leader within the organisation the role holder will: Develop a positive forward looking way of working which focuses on quality, safety, efficient delivery, compassion and effectiveness. Putting patients first in all occasions, supporting and inspiring staff towards continuous quality improvement. Actively seeking out and securing new opportunities that contribute positively to the patients and health systems. Provide dynamic leadership of all staff and clinicians working within their teams to develop a shared understanding of, and commitment to, the vision and strategic aims of BICS with all shareholders, employees, CCG colleagues, practices, providers and other stakeholders through their own action and visibility within the health economy and wider. Ensure the quality of service and care provided to patients, the strategic direction of the organisation, the delivery of performance and the financial targets are optimised with the role holders teams. Ensure effective corporate leadership and management of the teams as a member of the senior management team of BICS. Provide managerial input on the development of policies and a strategic direction for the development and delivery of the functions of the organisation. Promote a culture of individual and team responsibility and open communications that encourages the development of the organisation and achievement of its strategic plans. Ensure strategic and operational relationships are productive across a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring BICS purpose, aims and objectives are understood by all partners. Work collaboratively with the key senior managers and clinicians in the relevant partner organisations or care areas, i.e. secondary care providers, primary care, community care, independent sector, local authority, third sector providers to achieve win win relationships and outcomes.

Primary Care Collaboration and Integrated Provider Delivery Lead on the development of our strategic approach to primary care collaboration in Brighton and Hove and in other health care systems Lead on the implementation of programmes of work that pursue our vision and goals of developing new models of care for primary care and the whole system that deliver integrated care solutions for our health economy and project management of our primary collaboration and primary care service delivery. Lead the transformational change programme within primary care in Brighton and Hove that redesigns the management and care of people at risk of losing their independence, including co-leading and designing the interface and integration with community, specialist, mental health and social care services Lead a programme of service transformation in primary care in the city that delivers better access, better experience, more choice, better information, safer care, and to put people in control through the EPIC project Be the Integrated Provider Programme Lead on behalf of the Better Care Board and wider system, leading the programme delivery of this work stream and ensuring accountability to the Better Care Programme process. Provide managerial delivery expertise to this work stream working with the project management resource to ensure delivery against budget and timescales. Lead the development and implementation of the back office functions for primary care, identifying potential partners for delivery. Ensure that people using services and the public are meaningfully involved and engaged in all aspects of project and programme management and service delivery, including coproduction through service design, consultation and governance structures. 3. Programme and project management Lead on the development of programme and project management capability amongst our staff, across all services, supporting the teaching and learning of others. Ensure there are clear processes in all our projects and programmes that enable delivery of change management, service improvement across all our services, and in every new project. 4. Staff and Performance Management As a line manager the role holder will: Ensure high quality management and supervision of all staff within the teams, ensuring processes and training are in place for adherence to BICS policies. Line manage direct reports within the teams and ensure all staff are provided with appropriate support, direction and development according to BICS policies and development programmes. Develop the leadership potential of our staff and lead on workforce development and planning on an operational and strategic level within their teams Undertake regular one-to-one sessions with direct reports and ensure they are in place throughout the teams, that staff meetings and annual appraisals are in place within the teams and ensure that BICS Human Resources policies are properly implemented within their teams.

4 Mentor, support and train staff as necessary. Ensure that individual staff members work in a climate where their contribution is valued, developing roles across boundaries and working collaboratively in teams. 5. Change and learning Ensure processes are in place for sharing learning and new ways of working across the teams within BICS and the wider NHS community. Develop new processes as required to implement relevant local and national policies. Undertake proactive learning and personal development including participation in personal development opportunities. To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time, which are appropriate with the responsibility of the post. Key Relationships Directors at BICS Clinical Leads across the health system Cluster GP Leads, Proactive Care GP Leads Non Executive Directors Senior managers and clinicians at BICS and all other partner organisations in our health community, Sussex Community Trust, Sussex Partnership Trust, BSUH, CCG and Brighton and Hove City Council Patients and Patient Leaders Partners in Practices and Practice Managers Patients and the public, third sector partners Director level clinicians and managers across NHS and Independent Sector Providers, CCGs, CSU s, Third Sector, Local Authority. USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY BICS will make use of computer technology. Staff should expect to use automated information systems in their work in order to improve quality and co-ordination of services, and to enable faster and more accurate communication within and outside of the organisation. CONFIDENTIALITY As an employee of BICS you may gain knowledge of a highly confidential nature relating to the private affairs, diagnosis and treatment of patients, information affecting members of the public, matters concerning staff and details of items under consideration by BICS. Under no circumstances should such information be divulged or passed to any unauthorized person. This includes holding conversations with colleagues concerning patients or staff in situations where the conversation may be overheard. Breaches of confidence will result in disciplinary action which may involve dismissal.

It is a condition of employment for staff that they do not smoke whilst on duty or anywhere on the premises including the car park.

6 AGREEMENT This job description will be reviewed as necessary and may be amended to meet the changing needs of BICS. It will also be used as the basis to set performance standards and/or objectives and the contents will be used as part of annual appraisals.
