Daily Verses September 2011 September 1 A good fight 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith A good fight has no greater weapon than the love of Christ. It is fought in the power of His might and not in our own. Christ alone is the armour for the fight. The aim of the fight is to glorify Jesus; to live in the freedom He gives; and to bring His peace and joy into the lives of others. September 2 Crucified with Christ; risen with Christ. Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: The cross separates us from everything that would condemn us. The old is gone; crucified with Christ. The resurrection unites us with His life. We are a new creation; risen with Christ. Jesus came for this purpose so that His life can be in us. September 3 Excitement and joy. Acts 8:4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word. The early church spoke about Jesus everywhere they went. Persecution could not remove their love, joy and excitement. Jesus was everything to them. It is those who are excited to belong to Jesus; and filled with His joy; who draw others to Him. September 4 Jesus Christ is Lord
Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, Jesus did everything for us. He became like us in order to reach us. He overcame sin through the cross; brought life through His resurrection; and in Him all things are ours. Jesus Christ is Lord; we are united with Him; a people blessed and victorious. September 5 Godliness with contentment 1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. Godliness is Christ living in us. The Holy Spirit produces the fruit of holiness as we grow in Christ. Contentment is resting in His provision. His presence with us makes us secure; His promises make us strong; and His peace keeps us steadfast as we trust in His love. September 6 The foundation of our faith is Jesus Christ 1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. The foundation of our faith is Jesus Christ. We trust in His work for us; not what we have done. We live in His strength; not our own. Other foundations will fall. Religion cannot save us; good works will not justify; salvation is the gift of God. September 7 Forgiveness and reconciliation Romans 3:25 Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, He is able to forgive because Christ died for us. The wrath of God towards sin was poured out upon Him. He stood in our place. Justice was satisfied by His blood. He reconciles us to God by His life.
We are made new in Christ; free to be His people. September 8 The glory of the church is Jesus Ephesians 5:27 That He might present it to Himself a glorious church... The church the Lord will present to Himself is not an institution. He gave His life for His people. The glory of the church is Jesus. It is His life; His love; His righteousness dwelling in us. The church is glorious when Christ reigns in the hearts and lives of His people. September 9 The Lord strengthens us 2 Timothy 4:17 But the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; The Lord not only stands with us in difficult times; He strengthens us. The Holy Spirit empowers us so that we can stand firm at all times. We should not be too disappointed when people let us down. The Lord is with us. He will give the strength to face every trial. September 10 His love increases in us Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; The love of Christ in us is the evidence of new life in Christ. It increases as we grow in the Lord. It is not just an emotional response towards those in need. It keeps us from sin; fills us with joy; and lets us see others as Christ sees them. September 11 Christ our treasure. Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. What we value most in our life will be our treasure. When Christ is our treasure then our heart will be filled with the desire to know Him more; we will love His word and think constantly upon it; and the things we say and do will show we belong to Him.
September 12 The preaching of the cross brings salvation. 1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man s wisdom, Persuasive words of human wisdom do not save. It is the preaching of the cross that brings salvation. None but Christ can save; nothing but the blood of Jesus can cleanse from sin; and only the power of the Holy Spirit can bring new life in Jesus. September 13 Let your light shine. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. The life of Christ in us is the light that must be seen. Good works that are motivated by the love of Christ; performed with joy; and expressed freely; will shine brightly; letting others see the character of Jesus in us. September 14 His love and His provision. Romans 8:32 He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall he not with Him also freely give us all things? In Christ, the greatest gift has already been given; the greatest love has already been shown. If we walk in His will; and trust in His word; then His love will surround us and His provision will uphold us. September 15 The example to follow 1 Thessalonians 2:14 For you, brethren, became followers of the churches of God in Judea which are in Christ Jesus: The example of the Christians in Judea is seen in the book of Acts.
They were unshakeable in their faith; they prayed for those who persecuted them; they fearlessly spoke about Jesus; and they had fervent love for one another. September 16 Children of the King John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to be the children of God, even to them that believe on His name: We are one with Christ; His life is in us. We can rest in His care as we are His family. We can stand on His promises as we are children of the King. We can have confidence to do His will for His presence is with us. September 17 Holiness means to put on Christ 1 Peter 1:15 But as He who has called you is holy, so you be holy in all your behaviour; Holiness means to put on Christ. It is the evidence of new life in Christ. When we love the Lord then we will treasure His word in our heart; we will love others as Christ loves them; and we will want our thoughts, our words, and our actions to glorify Jesus. September 18 Genuine faith is seen by our works James 2:17...faith on its own, if it has not works is dead. The genuineness of our faith is seen by our works. Faith in Christ will put in us the desire to know His word. We will live by His promises, walk in His truth, and obey His commands. If we love Christ then we will follow after His righteousness; and we will let His love control the things we say and do. September 19 The counsel of God is a double-edged sword Acts 20:27 For I have not held back to make known unto you all the counsel of God.
The counsel of God is a double-edged sword. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ is given freely; but repentance and faith is the only way to receive His grace. In Christ there is mercy and forgiveness; but we must turn from sin so Christ can be Lord of our life. September 20 Our life represents the Lord 1 Timothy 4:12...be an example to the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. In Christ we are called to live by a high standard; our life represents the Lord; we are His people. The words we speak show our faith in Christ; His love is seen by our actions; His care by our trust in His promises; and His character is seen in our life. September 21 Good works cannot remove a sinful nature Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, Good works cannot remove a sinful nature. It is Christ alone who saves. He took our guilt and condemnation on the cross; He gives new life to all who trust in Him; He cleanses us by His word; fills us with joy in the Holy Spirit; and gives us power to live for Him. September 22 Entering His presence with great joy 2 Peter 1:11...an entrance shall be supplied to you abundantly. His grace is freely received; but there is still a reward to be gained; a prize to win; and a goal to reach. If we love and obey His word then we will enter into His presence with great joy. Our love for Christ is seen by His love in us. The more we love Christ;
then the more His love will flow through us. September 23 The greatest King; the greatest love; the greatest gift Revelation 1:5 'Unto Him who loved us...' The greatest King; the greatest love: the greatest gift. His greatness is beyond measure; His love beyond understanding; His gift beyond price. He loved us when we were dead in sin; gave Himself for us when we could do nothing ourselves. Mercy reached us; love drew us; grace lifted us; and by His power we have new life. September 24 The law guides but it also condemns Galatians 3:24...the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. The law guides but it also condemns. It demands what we cannot fulfil; offers life but brings death; turns holiness into legalism; and purity into morality. But in Christ the law cannot condemn us; the power of sin cannot hold us; and the promises of God keep us. September 25 Jesus Christ is always the same Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. His power will never diminish; His love will never change; His glory never fades; His word will never fail; and His kingdom will never end. Those who walk with Him now will reign with Him forever. His unchanging nature is holy, and all who love Him, love holiness.
September 26 Be sober 1 Thessalonians 5:8 But let us, who are of the day be sober, We must guard our heart and mind from the intoxication of the world. The hopes of the world will fade; the desire for worldly gain will not satisfy; and the pleasures of the world bring no lasting joy. But in Christ our hope is certain; He will satisfy and fill the longing heart; and His joy will never pass away. September 27 Christ our anchor Hebrews 6:19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, All who trust in Jesus will not be disappointed. He has accomplished all things for us. He is our anchor that will hold in the storm. His promises are certain; upheld by His character; and rooted in His love. They were bought at great cost but given freely to all who receive Him. September 28 Purity is the gift of God Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Jesus came for this purpose to give His people a new heart. Purity is the gift of God. A pure heart is cleansed by the blood of Jesus; and washed daily by His word. It has its focus fixed upon Jesus; obeying His commands and walking in His love; it is led by the Holy Spirit and filled with His joy. September 29 Our treasure is Christ in us 2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,
The life of Christ in us is the greatest treasure. His perfection is seen in our imperfection. His strength is activated by our weakness. His power is mighty when we are dependent upon Him. His supply is sufficient for our every need. His presence in us will remove all fear. Our treasure is where we put our trust. September 30 Chris in us overcomes 1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: It is Christ in us who overcomes. Faith rests in His work not ours; trusts in His word not our abilities; and walks in His ways not seeking self advantage. His power in us will overcome the need to satisfy selfish desires. He fills us with His love, peace, and joy setting us free from the despair of the world.
