4 Objectives REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS IN THE CITY OF RIO Target Reduction of emissions by 8% in 2012 compared with emissions in 2005 (baseline) Suggested target for emission reductions by 16% in 2016 and by 20% in 2020 for discussion with the Legislative Branch and civil society Negotiation to mitigate and compensate CSA emissions Raise awareness for climate change and sustainability

9 UPDATING THE INVENTORY OF RIO S GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION Baseline 2005 Author COPPE/ UFRJ Preliminary results march 2010 Rio de Janeiro was the first city in Latin America to publish an inventory of GHG emissions (1998) The inventory s content foresses Coppe s participation at the detail process of the Action Plan for greenhouse gases emission mitigation and the adoption of measures for climate change adaptation
