2 Mower County 4-H Mission Statement Mower County 4-H will provide a fun learning and growing environment for youth and adults, by promoting traditions both old and new Advisory Board Goals 1. Members enrolled by January 1st: a. If a club has 75% of their members re-enrolled by January 1 st they will receive a pizza party. b. If a club has 85% of their members re-enrolled by January 1 st advisory board will pay for a club activity. c. If a club has 100% of their members re-enrolled by January 1 st advisory board will pay for a club outing! 2. Every club will participate in a STEM activity by May 30, There will be project mentor list for half of the general projects by April 1, We Have Moved! Our new office is behind the Mower County Highway Department. Our address is 1105 ½ 8 th Ave NE. H COUNTY FAIR REGISTRATION NEW IN 2016 Fair Registrations will be handled online at There will be NO paper fair registrations given to each 4-Her. When using fairentry.com please sign in using your 4honline user name and password. The deadline for fair registration on fairentry.com is July 15 th, Please still use your 4-H Fairbooks to find which class to sign up for. If you do not have internet access you can still complete the paper registration form found at the Extension Office. NOTE: If you choose to fill out a paper registration you will have to come to the Extension Office once the form is complete and use one of the computers to input the information into fairentry.com. Please allow yourself plenty of time to enter the fair registration information into the computer. Office hours are 8AM-4:30PM, closed over the lunch hour. Remember you are only able to exhibit in the project areas that you are currently enrolled in; however you can add project areas on 4honline.com until the fair registration deadline on July 15 th. Please register online or complete your fair registration form by July 15, If your registration is not submitted online by this date you will not be eligible for champion ribbons and/or state trips Fairentry.com IS ready for fair registrations!! A message from Mower County Farm Bureau Attention Mower County 4-H Members Those enrolled in the photography project will have an opportunity for a special contest this year at the Mower County Fair. The Mower County Breakfast on the Farm will be held at Gene Anderson s Farm at th Ave., Waltham, MN on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Come and take some pictures and pick your best shot to enter into the Mower County Fair. The title of the entry will be Mower County Breakfast on the Farm. The picture should be an 8 x 10 colored photo. Only one entry per person. First Place - $25.00, Second Place - $15.00, Third Place $ This event is sponsored by the Mower County Farm Bureau Federation. Thank you. Please have all 4-Her s check in at the Ambassador Booth (near the dairy bar)! When they check in they will get an item card for each project. They must attach that card to their project before getting judged. They must check in before getting any projects judged! o Sign- up sheets to get judged will be made for photography and crafts/fine arts. It s our hope that the judging process will go smoothly for these projects. Livestock Interviews August 8th 3-8pm in Crane : All 4-H members enrolled in a livestock project that wish to receive a champion or reserve or attend state fair must participate in an interview. Back tag numbers will be given out at interviews. 4-Her s will be given only one number for the entire fair. Ribbon Auction sign up deadline is Noon on Friday (August 12 th ). Deadline to sign up for State Fair Trip is 5pm on Friday (August 12th). NO EXCEPTIONS!!! State Fair Meetings! General project state fair trip winners will meet at 1pm in the 4-H garden Saturday, August 13th. Livestock state fair trip winners will meet at 4pm in Crane Pavilion Saturday, August 13th. Please Note, paper work will be handed in at the state fair meetings! DO NOT hand them into the office before the meetings.
6 Advisory Board Round Up (elections) Sunday, August 14th 1:30pm 4-H Building. This is the time to get involved and make a difference for the Mower County 4-H Program! This is YOUR Opportunity to have your voices heard at Advisory Board meetings. Come elect your new officers (need to be 6th grade or older). o Positions to be filled are: all youth officers and youth districts representatives are open. Adult representatives are a two year term openings this year are North Female, South Female, East Female, West Male. Mower County 4-H Districts o East Frankford Jolly Youth, LeRoy Wide Awake, Racine Ramblers o South Country Aces, Lucky Clovers, Southside o North Red Rock Rangers, Rock Solid, o West Enterprise, Windom, Rough Riders, Lyle Willing Workers Livestock Updates LQA&E Youth need LQA&E if... Their last training is 2013 or older. Are 6th grade and older and want to go to state fair. Show swine. All youth showing swine must take LQA&E (3rd grade and up). You do NOT need to take the LQA&E training in 2016 if: You are ONLY exhibiting horse and/or dog You are a Cloverbud You will NOT be exhibiting any livestock at the 2016 Mower County Fair (beef, dairy, goat, lama, poultry, rabbit, sheep, and/or swine) You will NOT be exhibiting any livestock at the 2016 Minnesota State Fair 4-H Livestock Encampment. Youth in Grades 3-5 who will be exhibiting at the Mower County Fair only You are, however, strongly encouraged to take the training. If you are still in need of training it is your responsibility to attend another county s training. These dates and times are listed on the web at mn4-h/projects/animal-science/lqae/. 7 regional event charges must be paid in full by the families to the University before attending the event. This means that Mower County scholarships will only be given after the event is attended by the 4-Her(s). This does include BLU, YELLO, Regional Outings, and Camp Patterson (and any other state regional events that may come up during the year). Leader Trainings Online Did you know that all volunteers need to complete ONLINE VOLUNTEER TRAINING? Volunteers can easily access these trainings and get the support they need to make a difference in the lives of Minnesota youth through the 4honline website at This series of dynamic, interactive 30-minute online training modules allows volunteers to build their volunteer skills and knowledge from home. Sign into your screen in 4honline and click on the Trainings tab to access the available sessions. Mower County Endowment County 4-H endowments are long-term investments meant to ensure that local programs remain strong and vital for future generations of 4-H ers. The local 4-H program oversees expenditures of its investment. Reports are made to the county annually and funds are paid out at the request of the county program. The local county determines the use of the funds. 4.5% of the endowment is available to spend annually; the remaining interest earned is reinvested to build principal. If you would like more information about the Mower County Endowment please contact the Extension Office H Scholarships available for Mower County 4-Hers to attend leadership events, national trips, 4-H camping experiences, and other educational events. Contact the Extension Office if you are interested in receiving a scholarship. Events costs break down listed below $0-$75 = 35% reimbursed by Mower County 4-H after attending the event. $76-$150 = 60% reimbursed by Mower County 4-H after attending the event. $151- up = 85% reimbursed by Mower County 4-H after attending the event. Are you curious what 4-H judges are looking for? Are you interested in natural resources? Are you looking for natural resources project ideas? This webinar will first give you insights and tips from 4-H exhibit judge and Extension educator Gary Wyatt for preparing and presenting your 4-H exhibits for county fair judging. You will learn about how to best tell the story of your 4-H exhibit to the judge and there will be time for your questions. He will share information and encourage you to explore any of several current and relevant topics that would make great 4-H learning opportunities and exhibits.
