This course uses a scenario-based approach to explain the complexities of a management system audit. The course is narrated around the central case-study of an integrated risk-based audit of a hospital. 3 Course outline The course consists of five modules. Each of the core modules has several lessons and topics, which in turn are made up of several screens. The navigation of the course is simple and intuitive, and there is help available as a tutorial as well as a static screen accessible from the course interface. Module 1 Course Introduction In this module learners will be given an introduction to the Online Training course. Duration: 15mins Module 2 Initiating the Audit Upon completion of this module, learners will be able to: Duration: 5 hours distinguish between the responsibilities for the, the Audit Program Manager and the Audit Client identify the objectives, scope and criteria of the audit identify appropriate resources required to conduct an audit communicate with the auditee regarding the proposed audit; review the auditee s documentation to determine the feasibility of the audit create and submit a quality audit plan explain the use of various audit guidance tools which will help to focus on the main issues during an audit Course outline screen Module 3 Conducting the Audit Upon completion of this module, learners will be able to: Duration: 5 hours identify the reasons for conflict and implement appropriate techniques to communicate effectively use conflict resolution skills to resolve any differences that may occur conduct the opening meeting use different methods to obtain objective audit evidence Generate, collate and record audit findings Present the audit findings evaluate the corrective actions, wherever necessary Main menu home screen Recommended learning path We recommend that learners take the course in a linear manner, completing one module and lesson at a time in its entirety over a period of 2 weeks. This will help them understand the management systems auditing principles in a more comprehensible manner and will also enable them to have clarity on the case study through which the content is being taught. Initially only Modules 1 and 2 will be accessible to the learner, and within these modules, the learner has the freedom of going to any desired topic or screen through the topic menu. However, Modules 3 and 4 and 5 can be accessed only after the learner passes the scored assessment for the preceding modules. 4 The course learning strategy recognises that adults learn best when training is practical and focused The online learning course follows the disciplines of Knowles theory of adult learning (Androgogy) that specifies that adults learn best when training is practical and focused. Knowles theory also states that adults approach a task as problem solving, which can be effectively presented by scenarios and inductive questions. This course uses this method to ensure that the training is effective, interesting and useful. Self directed learning allows for time to reflect and develop a deeper understanding of the material This online course is structured so that participants can work as an independent learner at their own pace, in their own environment, utilising the given resources. The online environment is as actionpacked as a classroom environment usually is. The interactivities are strategically placed to give learners immediate feedback on their progress. Learning at their own pace, with time to reflect upon their learning, they will develop a deep understanding of the material, leading to application of concepts and reinforcement of knowledge. The case study approach helps to convey complex theoretical concepts in a simple and immersive way The course presents the learning through an engaging and sophisticated case study that is woven through all modules. This case study is a generic one, using the example of an integrated risk-based audit, so that it covers all disciplines such as quality, OH&S, food safety and environmental audits. In the case study, an imaginary is shown initiating, conducting and evaluating an audit systematically, as per the guidelines outlined in ISO 19011:2002 standard. The course follows her and her team as they go about engaging in discussions with the audit client and auditee, planning for the audit, using various tools to gather and analyse audit findings and then present them to the audit client and auditee. It also follows them in their post-audit activities. The case study method helps to convey complex theoretical concepts in a simple way. It allows learners to reflect on their own situation in the context of others experiences and understand complex situations. This exercise sharpens the learners analytical and diagnostic skills and exposes them to new situations, thus facilitating the creation of new knowledge through reflection, analysis and synthesis. 5 Tools and templates are available as printable documents which learners can use a job aids This course will provide learners with various tools such as templates for audit plans, audit reports and auditor competency evaluation records that they will find useful their work. In addition, it also trains learners on how to develop other tools such as checklists, mind-maps, flow charts, and turtle diagrams that will help them prepare for pre-audit planning. Summative Assessment The objective of this summative assessment is to evaluate the learners mastery of the concepts they have learnt in the modules. At the end of the three core modules are scored assessments consisting of multiple-choice questions that cover the RABQSA competencies.
