1 JOB DESCRIPTION SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR Discovering Abilities optimising the quality of life for people living with disabilities BASIC JOB PURPOSE This role is responsible for Effective provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure, with focus in the VMWare and Microsoft server virtual and physical environments. participating in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure Benchmark, analyse and report on Windows and VMWare infrastructure and systems Providing support to the Service Desk to resolve reported incidents and problems. 2 KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS Operations Backup and Recovery Monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs. Performs frequent system health checks using system monitoring tools and logging identified issues in service desk. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up. Server and corporate systems availability within the agreed SLA Scheduled outages conducted with minimal impact on core business hours. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Maintain backup and recovery policies and procedures. Ensure Systems are backed up as per agreed schedules. Verifying completion of scheduled jobs. Effective backup and recovery of corporate data. Apply security patches and updates within the agreed schedule. Hardware and Software Maintenance Provide a highly available and effective server environment. Upgrade administrative tools and utilities within the agreed schedule. Update system on release of new version of operating system and September 13 Page 2 of 6
3 application software within the agreed schedule. Maintain operational, configuration and other procedures. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Exchange Administration Monitoring performance of exchange server and logs. Provide support for systems and devices that integrate with Exchange for messaging services. Monitor and implement archiving. Ensure all server software is correctly licensed. Exchange server availability within agreed SLA Scheduled outages conducted with minimal impact on core business hours. Service Desk Provide support to the Service Desk clients Ensure all work requests are logged and maintained in service desk software in line with agreed service levels. Monitors service requests to help identify common needs that may require a global solution. SLA and response time performance criteria met Quality of customer service to all Service Desk clients within performance criteria met. September 13 Page 3 of 6
4 Time Management Prioritise and schedule regular system administration duties Maintain accurate work records Complete checklist for system tasks Completion of timesheets, log books as required System Administrative tasks completed when scheduled. Correct timesheets submitted on time. Communication Contribute and share information Maintain appropriate contact with organisational clients, contractors and suppliers. Scheduled outages communicated within the agreed SLA Brand Strength Build brand to ensure that Rocky Bay is consistently recognised as a leading Not For Profit brand. All communications with all stakeholders will be delivered using the Rocky Bay branded templates. Work constructively and cooperatively with peers and colleagues. Rocky Bay is recognised as a leading Not-For- Profit organisation in Western Australia. Working Together Contribute to team and organisational results through co-operative and collegial interactions Attend and participate in training as required. Attend and participate in staff and team meetings, in-services and workshops as required. Works both independently and under the general supervision of the Manager Corporate Technology, consults in deciding on actions and priorities based upon a thorough understanding of the area and its service and results orientation. Effective relationships are developed with peers and colleagues, including relevant external agencies. Report any OSH issues or hazards relating to equipment, vehicles and facilities to management. Work is completed in line with OHS guidelines. No avoidable incidents. 6 Recruitment criteria: Essential Minimum of three years experience in a medium sized, multi vendor organisation supporting it standard operating environment. Demonstrated advanced experience in support, administration and maintenance of virtual server and virtual desktop environments particular VMWare Highly developed skills and knowledge in designing, implementing and supporting Microsoft Windows Server Infrastructure with particular reference to Active Directory, Exchange, Group Policy, Windows Server and Domain services. Good understanding of general networking standards and principles. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal Ability to develop, analyse and interpret technical diagrams and written procedures. Well-developed diagnostic and trouble shooting skills. Well-developed organisational and time management skills. Working knowledge of backup and recovery technologies. Be able to work under minimal supervision Be an effective team member C class Drivers licence Desirable Microsoft Certification VMWare Certification Video Conferencing and Audio Visual Equipment skills Experience with Cisco CUCM IP telephony Understanding of requirements for people with disabilities Sound knowledge of safe work practices and occupational health and safety requirements Understanding of the structure and functions of Rocky Bay September 13 Page 6 of 6
