1 Date: 21&22 March 2015 GKidz Timothy Club (K1-2) Small Group Guide Theme: God Keeps His Covenant Promises Lesson 4 Part 2: God Remains Faithful to Abraham s Offspring Memory Verse: The LORD is good. His faithful love continues forever. It will last for all time to come. Psalm 100:5 (NIRV) Bible Passage: Genesis 25:19-34 Learning Objectives: Children will learn that: 1) We can talk to God about all our concerns (worries, questions, etc). 2) God has already devised plans for us even when we are still in our mother s womb. Value Highlighted: Patience Materials Needed: Memory Verse Poster GKidz will provide Memory verses placards, Abraham s Generation poster, Jacob and Esau story cards, boxes, stickers for craft, decorating materials (eg. pom pom, sequins, small paper strips, etc), paper plates, cotton buds, white glue, paper to write prayers A. Show and Tell (5 min) 1. Review the Memory Verse Psalm 100:5 by putting the words on the floor like hop scotch and children will read the word in sequence as they hop from one end to the other. 2. Allow 2 to 3 children to display their beans in the cup and see whose has grown the tallest. Try to find out why some beans grow more than the others. The reason may be how the child takes care of the beans enough water and sunlight. B. Intro/Review (10 min) 1. Hang up the Abraham s Generations poster and see if the children remember the descendants of Abraham. 2. Show the video on Jacob and Esau. 3. Tell the children that after Abraham and Sarah, God put another family in place by bringing Isaac and Rebekah together in marriage. God then set the stage for another family, Isaac and Rebekah s, to carry on His promises to Abraham. Ask the children if they remember what the promise was (He will be the father of many nations). But there was a problem read verse 21 aloud. 1

Leader says, "Children, prayer gives us a way to communicate with our heavenly Father. Just as a loving dad wants to hear about the troubles and triumphs of his children, the Lord wants to hear about what most affects our daily lives." C. Into the Word (15 min) 1. When Rebekah was pregnant, she prayed again. Ask the children why did Rebekah pray when God already answered Isaac s prayer for a child. (Answer: Rebekah was concerned with what was happening inside her body as there seemed to be a lot of unusual movement in her belly.) 2. Show photos of twins or PowerPoint of twins. 3. Teach the children that when we pray, God doesn t just listen He also speaks. Sometimes His answer is loud and obvious, such as Rebekah s pregnancy. Other times, God s response is quiet and we can only hear His reply be being still. As we be patient and listen, god may choose to answer us through different ways, such as verses in His word, another person providing advice or a peace about a problem. 4. Share a personal example with your group about a time God answered a prayer for you in a quiet way that required you to be attentive to His response. 5. Share the story of Jacob and Esau s interaction by using the story cards provided. 6. Ask children the following questions: (a) Do you know why Jacob was holding on to his brother s heels? (Answer: Most probably he wants to be the first born.) (b) What is the privilege of being first born? (Answer: He will inherit everything that belongs to Isaac, his father.) Transition: Children, God doesn t rely on our actions to complete His desires. He is always faithful to His children. D. MINISTRY TIME / CRAFT (30 min) 1. Leaders please fold the boxes in advance before the lesson starts. 2. Show the children the sample of God Answers My Prayer box. Tell the children that they and their family members can draw / write their prayers onto small pieces of papers, put them inside the God Answers My Prayers box and pray together as a family at home. 2
3 3. Give the children the God Answers and the s Prayers STICKERS. Ask the children to write their name on the line of the s Prayers. Then paste the God Answers sticker on flap of the cover of the box, and the s Prayers sticker on the side as shown in the photo. 3
4 4. Give the children the Memory Verse sticker. Ask them to open the cover of the box and stick the Memory Verse sticker onto the inside of the cover as shown in the photo. 5. Give the children 3 other Theme stickers to stick onto the other 3 sides of the box as shown in the photo. 6. After that, give the children some decorating materials (eg. pom pom, sequins or small coloured paper strips). For the coloured paper strips, the children need to crush the small paper into tiny paper balls as shown in the photo before they can paste onto the box. Ask the children to decorate the top cover of the box by using the decorating materials given. Leaders please prepare the cotton buds and the white glue on several paper plates in advance. (If your children are sitting around the table, 2 children can share the white glue on a paper plate, each child will have their own cotton bud. For those children without table and are sitting on the floor, 2-4 children can share a paper plate of glue). 7. Give the children a small prayer paper each after they have finished their decoration. Ask the children to draw / write one prayer request and put into their individual boxes and bring home. 8. Tell the children to continue to decorate their prayer box, draw / write their prayer requests with their family members at home. After their prayers have been answered, they can re-draw the answered prayers into blessings cards and attach them onto the 4
5 Blessing Scroll which they made during Lesson 1.3. Leaders please show the Blessing Scroll sample so that the children can understand what you are talking about. 9.
