1 PowerPoint Unit 3 Animations and Timed Presentations Animation a means of adding movement or sound to objects in a slide presentation Transitions are applied to an entire slide (move the entire slide). Animations are applied to objects on a slide (text, graphics, charts). FINISH ALL SLIDES BEFORE YOU ADD ANY TRANSITIONS OR ANIMATIONS Animate Objects Animate Graphics (Clip Art or Photo) Select object you want to animate Click on Animations tab Custom Animations button Add Effect Entrance Choose effect Scroll to see more

2 Graphic (picture) is now numbered shows that it has an animation associated with it You can tell computer you want animation to appear When you click your mouse Automatically (timed) Once you have several animations set, you can change the order if you want Click on the animation you want to move Use the Re-Order button to move the animation up or down in the sequence

3 Animate Bulleted Text Builds - Builds are effects that allow you to reveal the points on a slide one by one A build slide is one that seems to build on itself, showing progressively more information as the presentation proceeds Will help audience stay focused won t divulge contents of slide before you want audience to view it Click anywhere in the bulleted text box Choose an animation style just like you did with the graphic Click on the drop down arrow for your animation Choose Timing Click on the Text Animation tab By first level paragraphs if you have only one type of bullet (no sub points) By second level paragraphs if you have some sub points The bulleted text on your slide will now show up one line at a time Again, you can specify On Mouse Click or Timed

4 Animate a Chart (SmartArt Graphic) Create your SmartArt graphic Click anywhere on the SmartArt Choose an animation style just like you did with the graphic Click on the drop down arrow for your animation Choose Timing Click on the SmartArt Animation tab By Level one by one Can also specify reverse order (top to bottom or bottom to top) Timed Presentations Timed presentation a slide presentation that will move from element to element without manual advancing (mouse clicks) Self-running presentations are a great way to communicate information without having to have someone available to run a slide show presentation. For example, you might want to set up a presentation to run unattended in a booth or kiosk at a trade show or convention, or send a CD with a self-running slide show to a client. Timed Transitions Choose transition Put check in Automatically After Specify number of seconds you want current slide to stay on screen before moving to next slide (BE SURE TO GIVE ENOUGH TIME FOR ALL ELEMENTS TO APPEAR ON YOUR SLIDE AND FOR AUDIENCE TO READ COMPLETE SLIDE)

5 Timed Animations Animation Guidelines Not too many different animations in same presentation Reuse one or two animations to: o build consistency and o let audience know what is coming up Useful for before and after, or question and answer slides Animating Bulleted Text Enter all bulleted text first Click anywhere in bulleted text Click on the Animations tab Click on the Custom Animations button Choose an Entrance effect Click on the drop down arrow next to your effect Choose Timing from the drop down menu

6 Click on the Text Animation tab. By 1 st Level Paragraphs (if you have only main points) By 2 nd Level Paragraphs if you have any sub points You can choose if you want to move from bullet to bullet By clicking the mouse Automatically (timed) If timed, place check mark in Automatically after Fill in number of seconds Delay allow enough time for audience to read each bullet point. Be sure to have bullet points in text boxes appear one level at a time. Test drive to make sure slide is working the way you want it to Animating Graphics Add effect, click on Drop Down arrow Choose Timing

7 Can choose either: On Mouse Click After Previous (timed) Motion Paths allows text or clip art image to follow an invisible path on the screen Can choose from given paths or create path of your own. 1. Insert graphic on slide 2. Click on graphic to make it active. 3. Animations tab, Animations group, Custom Animation button 4. Add Effect button choose Motion Path 5. Choose from the existing animation paths or choose Draw Custom Path and create your own. Custom Path 6. Use the pencil tool to draw your path. 7. Choose a speed for the animation. Animating Charts Follow same steps as text box When you get to SmartArt Animation Choose level at which you want to animate

8 Refining Your Presentation On Animations tab Click Play button Computer will demo current slide Timeline will appear Counts off seconds as your slide automatically plays Gives more accurate measure of total time needed for slide
