NON-FICTION BOOK Traffic and safety Children are introduced to words and phrases related to traffic and discover the purpose of various road signs, parking controls and road safety measures. Using a simple map, photographs and examples of pupils work, children investigate traffic controls, traffic flow, parking and pedestrian safety.

This book investigates the issue of traffic and helps to weigh up the evidence for and against changing a high street into an area for pedestrians only. It also includes information about different ways of solving traffic problems. NON-FICTION BOOK Local traffic an environmental issue This book explores issues involved in building new roads. It shows how data can be collected and how to canvass opinion and then come to a considered decision in a demoncratic way. BIG BOOK + The Trouble with Traffic Reading and writing for information KS2. Big book with 6 different information texts that deals with different traffic problems. Teacher s book provides lesson plans for imaginative activities connected to the texts. BIG BOOK Four in a Row. Big book following the lives of four children whose lives are affected by road safety issues. Very useful for Literacy teaching as the book presents the stories in different formats: television transcript, magazine article, radio playscript, newspaper report, picture story and leaflet. TEACHERS PACK + RESOURCES Front Page News. Young people read a road accident report and take up roles in a court case to decide on who was responsible. Insight is gained into the factors which cause a road accident. MAGAZINE Safer Area. Colourful and engaging magazine format workbook about traffic calming. Covers car crashes, seat belt use, drink and drugs, fatal distraction, newly qualified drivers and speeding. Streets Ahead RAC Teaching Pack A teaching pack suitable for KS3 Geography and PSHE. This excellent up to date resource deals with the issues of sustainable transport and road safety. There are 10 short activities that can be built up into 4 hour complete lessons. The activities use the Thinking Skills approach developed by David Leat, involving activities that develop reasoning skills, the ability to analyse and evaluate information and to draw and justify conclusions. Zack s Pack A teaching pack based around a high quality photo story card sorting activity. The issues explored are the consequences of tragic accident involving two friends.
