1 Downloading ebooks to your ipad/ iphone/ipod Touch using Overdrive Must be a Plano Library cardholder. ipad, ipod Touch and iphone devices support several ebook and audiobook formats. These devices can support most Kindle books, Adobe EPUB books, Adobe OEPUB books, MP3 audio books and WMA audio books. These devices will NOT work with WMA music, WMA video, PDF or OPDF books. To begin, download the Overdrive Media Console app from the Apple App Store by clicking the App Store icon. Search for Overdrive Media Console 1

2 Find the OverDrive Media Console App and click Install Note: you will need to enter your Apple ID and password to complete the download. The app will download to your home screen. 2

3 Launch the app. You will be shown the following message: If you have an Adobe ID, sign in using it. If you do not have an Adobe ID, you will need to create one now. Press the Register at Adobe.com button. You will be taken to the following web page. Fill out the required fields and press Continue when you are done. 3

4 You will see the following screen when you have successfully registered: Re-launch the OverDrive app from the home screen. Press Get Books 4

5 Press the green circle after Add a library Search Choose Plano Community Library District 5

6 Press Online Media of Northern Illinois Libraries The OMNI Libraries website will open in your Safari browser. Press Login 6

7 Select Plano Community Library District from the pull down menu. 7

8 Enter your full library card number and press Login 8

9 You are now logged in to the OMNI libraries site and can search or browse for books to download. Touch on a title you are interested in to bring up more information. 9

10 If a copy is available for checkout you can Add to cart under the format you want to download (see website listed on page 1 for list of supported formats). This title is available in either Kindle or Adobe EPUB formats. Downloading the Kindle version will require downloading the Kindle App from the App Store. Downloading the Adobe EPUB version will open the title in your Overdrive Media Console app and will not require any additional app downloads. 10

11 Choose how long you would like to check the title out for and then touch Confirm check out 11

12 Confirming your checkout will automatically relaunch the Overdrive Media Console app and your download will start immediately. You may be asked to sign in to your Adobe account that you signed up for earlier. If so, enter your login information. Press the title of the book when it is finished downloading. You are ready to read your ebook! 12

13 If you want to download a Kindle format book, you will need to follow these additional instructions. Relaunch the App store and search for Kindle. Install the app the same way you did the Overdrive app earlier. Launch the app after it has finished downloading. The icon will look like this: When the app launches you will be prompted to sign in to your Amazon account. This will register your device for the Kindle service and allow your downloads to be delivered directly to it. 13

14 You can now relaunch the Overdrive App and search for titles you are interested in downloading. Note: any title stating for use on Kindle devices transferred via USB only cannot be downloaded to your device. When you find a Kindle book you are interested in, press Add to Cart. On the next screen press Proceed to Checkout. 14

15 Choose your checkout period and press Confirm Checkout. 15

16 Safari will open your Amazon account. If you are not already signed in you will have to do so. Once signed in, choose your device from the drop down list and press Get Library Book to allow your download to start next time you open your Kindle App. Your Amazon Account You will then see the following message: 16

17 Relaunch your Kindle App. Your book should show up in your list of downloaded items. Once your download completes you should be able to touch the title and begin reading your book. 17

18 You can return ebooks early (note: audio books can not be returned before the due date). To return a non-kindle book early, swipe your finger across the title in your Overdrive Media Console App. A red button will appear with the words Return/Delete. Press Return/Delete and you will be given the option to return and delete the title or just delete the title from your device. If you only choose to delete the title from your device the item will still be checked out to you and will count towards the limited number of items you can have checked out at one time. 18

19 An ebook checked out on Kindle is returned through Amazon. Go to and from the Your account menu on the top right, select Manage Your Kindle. Sign in to your Amazon account. Select the Actions dropdown menu next to the book you want to return. (Tip: the words public library will appear next to any library ebooks) From the menu, select Return this book. Select Yes to return the book. After you return the book, it will still show on the Kindle list in your Kindle App. To remove it from the list, press and hold your finger on the picture of the book cover. Press Delete permanently on the box that comes up. A warning box will pop up press delete on the warning box as well and the item will be deleted from your Kindle app. 19
