1 Five Considerations For The Choice Of Laundry Services They could be seen as a commodity by hotel managers who are considering shutting down their on-premises laundry (OPLs). The shift is usually viewed as having the highest benefit and that is cost savings. Outsourced linen services are cheaper than OPLs and provide the benefits of largerscale operations in terms of cost savings. On first sight, the many local vendors available in this industry seem indistinguishable other than their prices and the bid with the lowest price is awarded the contract. It's true in part it is not the case for all. A hotel manager can save money by moving laundry to an off-site place. Linen services do profit by economies of scale and closing an OPL will free up floor space for revenues, like by adding gyms or snack bars. But most commercial laundries provide a variety of services and distinct features that give them unique branding and personal relationships with their customers--the very opposite of commoditization. Here are five reasons linen services differ from the rest Long established process One of the linen services that could provide services to your hotel(s) may have been operating for longer than its competitor(s). With the time to establish itself in the local market the elder may have expanded and serves more customers than less experienced competitors. It is more likely to benefit by economies of scale and its managers may be better competent to provide advice on management of linen. Capacity The more laundry processed, the lower the cost per pound. A smaller capacity laundry that's busting at the seams will require multiple shifts in order to increase the amount of output and take care of your job. A larger laundry may also require this. In either case, the laundry's capacity, its percentage of employed, and the plans to increase it say a lot about its capacity for managing your tasks and growing economies in the future. Market for specialties A growing number of uniform and linen services, many of which are in operation for more than 50 years are devoted to hotel work. The majority of companies in the business handle multiple markets as they provide establishments in hospitality, food and beverage healthcare retail, service, manufacturing, or any other industry. The ones that are 100% dedicated to hotels are experts in the market of hospitality. Mixed operations also have advantage over the competition in that they can manage more of a hotel's product needs, including napkins and tablecloths to serve food and industrial uniforms for maintenance staff.
2 Modernization of equipment The outsourced laundry in town with lesser work than the larger one may have more modern, higher-speed washing, drying and conveying equipment. Are the loads moved through the process using belt or overhead conveyors? Or is the laundry facility employing hand-driven carts that need more work? Ask other laundries to let you know what functions they automate. Your destination is within easy reach How far is the laundry from the hotel(s)? Chains that rent linen and wash it can wash your clothes over 100 miles, but they will keep your linen inventory in an area service center. It may be necessary to be near to laundry equipment if your hotel has its own linen, but contracts out washing. Hoteliers must be aware that outsourced launderers collaborate with the property to ensure proper inventory levels to account for sudden and unexpected rises in the demand for linen.
