Then have students select the matching Spanish color word from the plastic bag and place it on the board. 5 Teaching Butterfly Life Cycle with The Very Hungry Caterpillar Directions: Display the stages of a butterfly s life cycle on a bulletin board. Work with students to write sentences on sentence strips that describe each stage. 6 The Very Hungry Caterpillar Sorting Make and Take Project Directions: Use tissue boxes for sorting the food that the caterpillar ate. Decorate each box with The Very Hungry Caterpillar TM straight border. Glue or tape a sentence strip to the front of each sorting box. Have students put the food in the proper sorting box. Visit for more ideas on sorting food groups. 7 Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Directions: Place each animal on your bulletin board and cover with a piece of construction paper. Place the crayon accent that matches the color of each animal on top of the piece of paper. Attach a What do you see? clue to each corresponding crayon accent. Read the clues aloud and have your students name the animal under each piece of paper. Additionally, have your students to sequence each animal by number as it appeared in the book. 8 Telling Time with The Very Busy Spider Te l l i n g T i m e W i t h T h e Ve r y B u s y S p i d e r What time does each clock show? Times Directions: Practice telling time in the classroom with a fun matching game. Make several copies of the analog clock pattern that is provided in the resource guide. Draw the hands on each clock to show the times that are used in the story. Call on students to choose a digital time card and have them place it below the analog clock that shows the same time.
