6 ABOUT OUR ACADEMY Montagu Academy is a larger than average sized primary academy with 464 pupils on the school roll. It opened in April 2011 following the amalgamation of the separate Infant and Junior schools. The Academy is a popular choice with parents, numbers on roll are increasing and this trend is set to continue. The Academy is a two form entry primary Academy with its own thriving nursery, which we are planning to develop further to meet the new Early Years Government agenda. We believe that children should be able to look back at their primary school days as a time when they were happy, where work was stimulating and challenging and each achievement was recognized. The Academy seeks to ensure that children attain the highest possible standards in Literacy and Numeracy through quality learning experiences in the full range of National Curriculum subjects, within a supportive and challenging environment. The Academy is proud of its exciting and stimulating wider curriculum. As an academy with a history of attaining the Gold Arts Mark, we are very proud of the standard of art work produced by our pupils, and you will get a sense of this as you walk around the Academy. Children are offered a broad range of extra curricular opportunities including residential visits, attending sporting fixtures and theatre visits. We are excited about the opportunities that are afforded to us by the New Primary Curriculum. The new Headteacher will have the opportunity to work with other Primary colleagues across Wakefield City Academies Trust to develop a stimulating curriculum which will enable our pupils to leave Montagu Academy well equipped for the next phase of their education as confident, resilient learners. We insist on the highest standards of behaviour and expect that children will do their best at all times. All children should leave the Academy at the end of the day happy and eager to share with you some of their experiences. We are ambitious about the future of Montagu Academy. With the support of Wakefield City Academies Trust we have already begun our journey to improving the school to good and beyond. 5
