Service: Children s Service, Schools and Learning Building 2, North London Business Park Oakleigh Road South, London N11 1NP Job Title: Lead Learning Mentor - temporary contract to March 2011 (working up to four days a week) Reporting to: ic Manager, Philip lgar Grade: BBB 36 to 39 Post No: 2. CONTXT ND PURPOS OF TH JOB To lead and co-ordinate the supervision, development and progress of Learning Mentors within Barnet ic and ssociate schools by: 2.1 ensuring high quality, effective Learning Mentor practice in Partnership and ssociate schools linking effectively with L and ic strategic planning and the very Child Matters agenda 2.2 visiting Partnership Learning Mentors regularly to monitor progress, support improved practice and ensure appropriate training where necessary. 2.3 supporting Learning Mentors to raise the levels of pupil achievement and attainment and narrow the achievement gap 2.4 advising Learning Mentors in the support of their vulnerable pupils to meet their social, emotional and behavioural needs 2.5 supporting Learning Mentors to identify, record and analyse relevant data to demonstrate the progress of their individual pupils 2.6 working closely with headteachers and senior staff to make effective provision for disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils through the Learning Mentor programme 2.7 providing regular feedback to all parties on the progress and development of the school s Learning Mentor 2.8 providing high quality written documentation relating to the Learning Mentor role; contributing to relevant reports
2 2.9 seeking opportunities to share good Learning Mentor practice and expertise across schools 2.10 improving and extending Learning Mentor skills in recognising and evaluating the impact of work with pupils and contributing to the whole school SF process 2.11 co-ordinating, developing and providing training for Learning Mentors to ensure their induction and on-going professional development needs are met 2.12 extending Learning Mentor practice relating to very Child Matters and other L and national initiatives including cross agency work 2.13 participating in the development of Barnet strategic initiatives and with other appropriate agencies e.g. parent partnerships, CF to ensure relevant aspects are put into practice 2.14 representing Barnet L at regional and national meetings and liaising with CWDC and DCSF 2.15 participating in national initiatives, including the organisation and delivery of induction training for learning mentors in the North London Consortium 2.16 leading regular local network meetings to share good practice and provide support for learning mentors and their line managers formulating Barnet policy for implementation of the Learning Mentor strand in line with emerging good practice and changes in national policy 2.18 managing a budget and sourcing additional funding where available 2.19 taking a lead role in the appointment of learning mentors and contributing to arrangements for their safeguarding 2.20 utilising National Occupational Standards to establish work related practice and professional development qualifications building up Job Descriptions and Personal Specifications 3. PRNCPL CCOUNTBLTS 3.1 to work in partnership with Headteachers, Learning Mentors, their Line Managers and Local uthority staff to ensure the successful development of the Learning Mentor programme 3.2 to monitor, evaluate and report progress in the Learning Mentor programme to the xcellence Cluster (ic) Partnership and xecutive as and when required 3.3 to represent Barnet L and the ic Partnership at local and national network meetings and feedback strategies and developments 3.4 to carry out duties requested by the ic Partnership, as appropriate, commensurate with the grading of this post.

FLXBLTY 5.1 in order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. There will be a need for flexible working arrangements by negotiation to include some evening/weekend work and during school holidays. Such duties, however, will fall within the scope of the post, at the appropriate grade. 6.
