2 2:15 2:45 Networking Break 2:45 4:00 Panel Discussion Tammy Shepherd, Jim Brown, Joe Stasi, Don Burman, and Mitzi Cardenas facilitated by Shanna Hanson 4:00 5:00 New Member Reception Panel Facilitator and Participants: Facilitator Shanna Hanson, FHFMA (Manager of Business Knowledge) is a dynamic Human Arc principal known for her solid commitment to core customer service values. She has key responsibility for research and reporting to executive staff on all legislative and environmental changes and trends impacting Human Arc healthcare markets, services and product development initiatives. This includes identification and development of new contacts in government agencies to further the company s understanding of changing public health insurance protocols and trends. In addition, her scope of responsibility includes working with corporate Information Technology to help assure that Human Arc information management and applications systems provider software meets the evolving needs of healthcare provider clients. Finally, her long experience with eligibility programs is an important input in corporate training. Prior to 2007, Ms. Hanson served for 14 years as Human Arc Midwest Operations Leader for the firm s government funded healthcare eligibility screening and enrollment services. She has been a long time driving force behind her region s Healthcare Financial Management Association, has served as its President, and has earned the designation of Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA). She also holds the Founders Medal of Honor Award. Ms. Hanson has been involved with the Local Investment Commission MC+ Outreach Task Force as well as work with local schools and diverse community fundraising efforts. She holds a BS in business from Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK) as well as Master Team Facilitator certification. Tammy Shepherd, CPA, FHFMA is the Chief Financial Officer for Medical Administrative Services of KU, the physician practices owned by the University of Kansas Hospital. Tammy has been with the University of Kansas Hospital for 10 years. Tammy s previous experience was with managed care companies and public

3 accounting. Medical Administrative Services of KU provides staffing, billing, information services, and financial services for 70 physicians in 18 locations for primary care, cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, hematology, oncology, breast radiology, and wound care physicians. Tammy is also the Past President of the Heart of America Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She has a Bachelor s Degree in Accounting from Kansas State University, is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Jim Brown is the Chief Financial Officer for Centerpoint Medical Center, a 221 bed hospital that is part of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). Jim has been with Centerpoint Medical Center since May of Previously, Jim has served has served as the Regional CFO, Hospital CFO, and Division Supply Chain CFO while with HCA. Jim has served as a board member of the Kansas City Clinical Oncology Program and Chairman of the Board of The Surgery Center of Kansas City. He has a Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri. Joe Stasi CPA became Chief Financial Officer of Saint Luke s East Lee s Summit in He joined Saint Luke s Health System in January of 2003, holding corporate finance and managed care roles. Prior to that, he served as CFO for Mid-America Health, a provider-based, managed care organization affiliated with Saint Luke s. He is a certified public accountant and holds an MBA from Rockhurst University.

4 Don Burman, Chief Executive Officer at Heartland Surgical Specialty Hospital, LLC, has dedicated his career to aligning the interests of hospitals and physicians and the development of new health care entities. Since his arrival in May 2009, Mr. Burman has forged new relationships within the Greater Kansas City medical community and looks forward to introducing the new vision and re-branding of HSSH. For the past fifteen years, Mr. Burman has been a prominent health care executive and proponent of physician owned hospitals, including service on the Board of Physicians Hospital of America and providing testimony before various state legislatures on the benefits of physician ownership. He has also worked to ensure the highest standards for quality care. Institutions under Mr. Burman's leadership have been recognized nationally for quality care, customer service and satisfaction, including the Summit Award by Press Gainey and by U.S. News and World Report. Mr. Burman has also volunteered his time serving on Oklahoma's Trauma Task Force and on the Board of the American Red Cross. Mr. Burman is a national speaker on physician-hospital alignment strategies and hospital strategic development. Prior to his service for physician owned hospitals, Mr. Burman demonstrated a knack for leading entrepreneurial health care ventures. In his career, Mr. Burman has been involved in the construction of 14 physical therapy clinics, 8 hospitals, 6 skilled nursing Part A facilities, 3 ambulatory surgery centers and 2 rehabilitation hospitals. Before earning a Master's in Health Administration from Washington University, School of Medicine, in St. Louis, Mr. Burman served ten years in the United States Air Force. Mitzi Cardenas is an information technology executive with more than 15 years in the healthcare IT industry. She currently serves as the Vice President, Chief Information

5 Officer at Truman Medical Centers (TMC), a two-hospital, not-for-profit health system located in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to 380 acute-care beds, the TMC system includes TMC Behavioral Health, the Jackson County Health Department and a number of primary care practices and clinics. In her current role, Cardenas is responsible for all planning, implementation, operations and evaluation of programs for information services. She also provides leadership to the organization in developing leading clinical and administrative information systems and technology. Since her arrival in 2008, Ms. Cardenas has worked with the organizational leadership to build and gain approval for an aggressive 18-month quality-focused plan to complete the roll-out of an electronic medical record that was successfully executed in late August of Currently, Mitzi is Co-chair of the Technology and Operations Workgroup for the Missouri Health Information Organization, a 501c3 corporation that will lead the exchange of health information across the State. Prior to that, she served as the co-chair of the Technical Infrastructure Workgroup under the direction of the formational State of Missouri Health Information Technology (MO-HITECH) to develop the statewide strategic and operational plan submitted to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. She received her bachelor s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master s of science degree from Troy State University. New Member Reception!
