Silent Prayer of Confession WE RESPOND TO GOD S LAW Confession of Sin (Unison): Heavenly Father, you alone are the Lord our God and the Lover of our souls. Yet we have not honored you as Lord nor loved you with our whole beings. We have worshiped the desires of our flesh, exalted the ambitions of our hearts, magnified the wisdom of our minds, and raised our own kingdoms against yours. Have mercy on us, Lord. Expel all false gods from our souls and grant us new hearts that love you. 2

3 We repent of our idols and return to you, our loving Father. Rule with all power in our hearts. Remake us according to your righteousness. Forgive all our sins for the sake of your Son Christ Jesus, who died for idolaters (Rom 5:6) and fulfilled all righteousness (Mt 3:15). GOD DECLARES HIS GOSPEL Reading of the Gospel: 1 John 4:9, 10 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Confession of the Gospel (Unison): Almighty God, we are greatly sinful and unable to save ourselves. But we trust in the Savior you have graciously given: Christ Jesus our Lord. We trust only in the obedience of Christ for our righteousness, the death of Christ for our release from the Law s curse, the resurrection of Christ for our immortality, the ascension of Christ for our reconciliation with you, the rule of Christ for our final victory and peace. We rest on Christ Jesus the Son of God alone for salvation. Amen.
