2 ORGANISATION AND COMMITTEE Scientific organiser Caroline Ospelt, Diane van der Woude, Christian Beyer, João Dias, and Christophe Richez Scientific Content This course will begin with introductory lectures to immunology, and will then give an update on the most recent concepts in adaptive and innate immunology and their relevance to rheumatic diseases. The course will focus on interactive learning and practical training, as reflected in the time dedicated for discussion and workshops. 3 GENERAL INFORMATION Course venue Nova Medical School, Lisbon, Portugal Course opening 1 April 2015 Course closing 2 April 2015 Participants Maximum number of participants: 40 This is an educational activity targeting young rheumatologists and researchers with knowledge of immunology and strong interest in translational research focusing on rheumatic diseases. Selection criteria for attendees are: - Young rheumatologist (under 40 years of age), internal medicine specialist or basic science researcher working in the field of rheumatology - Interest in immunology and translational research focusing on rheumatic diseases as indicated by a letter of motivation in the application form - The course is a selective course with competitive admission. Potential attendees will send an application form, which includes a CV, a personal statement and a description of a current or potential future research project focusing on innate or adaptive immunity (might be selected for discussion in the workshops). A specific template for the project submission is provided in the application form. Official language English Registration fee 150 euros (with 1 night accommodation) or 200 Euros (with 2 nights accommodation) 2

4 Bursaries EULAR will grant 10 bursaries at 500 EUR to young rheumatologists. These bursaries will be offered to support applicants, which have less financial support by their institutions. Applicants can apply for bursaries by sending a CV, a personal statement and an abstract of a current/potential future research project focusing on innate or adaptive immunity. COURSE DESCRIPTION Learning objectives To increase knowledge and skills of young rheumatologists and basic researchers working in the field of rheumatology in immunology and translational research. To give to participants the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and experiences and therefore to foster international collaboration. Basic training in how to design and conduct a translational research project. Course description This is a compact, one and a half day course on immunology and translational research with a special emphasis on two hot immunology topics and on the design, interpretation and analysis of basic or translational research projects. Two main sessions will be organized: - Basic to Hot topic sessions (with 3 different lectures about adaptive or innate immunity) - In depth discussion of research projects sent in by the attendees and selected by the faculty - Course certification A certificate of attendance will be supplied. Course evaluation There will be a formal evaluation of the course by attendees 3
