Urban Ecosystem Europe Lorenzo Bono
Urban Ecosystem Europe The Urban Ecosystem Europe is a core set of advanced sustainability indicators which provides an integrated assessment of European cities urban environment, according to the EU Urban Thematic Strategy and the Aalborg Commitments.
Urban Ecosystem Europe Cities participating receive a benchmarking report and a city s profile showing their strengths and weaknesses Solar thermal and PV plants on public buildings (kw) big medium small Hannover N O2 median Separated co llect. P M Waste So lar po wer P ublic transpo rt Water co ns. 0 Wien Munchen Barcelona Lyon Paris Roma Madrid Napoli Praha Hannover Helsinki Dresden Goteborg Zaragoza Heidelberg Lefkosia C ycling P arks and gardens
Urban Ecosystem Europe Comparing with other cities across Europe can be a useful reference point to do a baseline review of the local situation and to set new local targets. A minimum size of thousands inhabitants is recommended
The main themes Local action for health Natural common goods Responsible consumption and lifestyle Planning better mobility, less traffic Energy and Climate change Local Management towards sustainability
The indicators PM 10 concentrations NO 2 concentrations Ozone concentrations People exposed to noise pollution (traffic source) Domestic water consumption Inhabitants served by water treatment plants Re-use of rain water Water network s leakages
Household and municipal waste produced Differentiated collection of waste Waste disposal Percentage of journeys by car (modal split) Number of registered cars Passengers travelling on public transport Low emission public transport fleet Cycle paths and lanes Pedestrian areas Public green areas The indicators
CO 2 emissions and reduction targets Trend of electric consumptions Inhabitants connected to district heating system Energy consumption of public buildings Renawable plants (managed by public authority) The indicators Green public procurement, procedures and purchasing Environmental certification of public authorities
