3 Itinerary Day 1 Depart on your scheduled flight to Verona, situated in the Veneto region of north-east Italy. Spend time at leisure on arrival, with dinner served at your hotel this evening. An important Roman city, Verona is still thriving today and plays host to a rich collection of archaeological sites, with perhaps the most impressive being the 15,000-seat Roman Arena. One of Italy s great travel experiences, this ancient amphitheatre is a must-see with or without the added spectacle of an opera performance. Of course, during your holiday, you will attend an opera here in this grandest of settings, which hosted gladiatorial battles in the 1st century AD. Day 2 Get to know Verona on this morning s guided sightseeing tour. You ll see all the main highlights including Juliet s balcony, the supposed setting for Shakespeare s tragic love story Romeo and Juliet, and the old Roman Forum, Piazza Erbe, where you ll find a lively open-air market. Before free time for lunch, admire Castelvecchio, a fortress displaying impressive Gothic architecture and seven imposing towers. This afternoon is free for you to make your own discoveries. For views over Verona maybe climb the steps of St Pietro Castle, visit the Roman Theatre, which dates back to the time of Augustus, or perhaps admire the elaborate Scaligeri Tombs, funerary monuments to one of the city s most influential families. This evening you will attend an opera at the Roman Arena. Guests will watch either Carmen (30th June and 28th July departure) or La Traviata (7 and 21 July departure), so you are assured an inspiring evening of sublime entertainment. Prior to the performance, enjoy dinner in the intimate setting of the stylish Maria Callas restaurant, named after the famed opera singer. Located just a few steps from Piazza Bra and close to the Roman Arena, as you dine you can soak up the magical atmosphere before the unforgettable main event. Your Tour Manager will be on hand to point you to your seat on arrival.

4 Day 3 Today has been left free for you to spend at leisure. Perhaps join our optional excursion to Lake Garda, where you can explore the lakeside resort of Sirmione, dominated by a 13th century castle and home to impressive Roman ruins. You ll also take a cruise on the lake to the town of Garda. Dotted with pretty gardens, fine restaurants and quaint narrow streets it is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing stroll. During your holiday you will have a further opportunity to head to the Roman Arena for another evening of opera. Day 4 Discover more of Verona today or opt to join our winery tour, which takes you into the prestigious Valpolicella wine region. Witness the beauty of the lush vine-clad valleys as you head to a traditional farm to learn about the region s unique rich red Amarone, which is produced by drying out the grapes over several months. This process results in a distinct raisin flavoured wine with a velvety texture and notes of cherry, coffee or almonds, which you ll taste alongside a selection of locally-produced meats and cheeses.

5 Day 5 Your holiday comes to an end today as you transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
