2 Tax File Numbers Any student will need at tax file number if he/she starts work (part time and fulltime) and all students planning on a tertiary education require one when they start. Importantly, current Year 12 students are reminded that they cannot enrol in a CSP (Commonwealth Support Place) course at university without a Tax File Number, so it is worthwhile getting an application submitted early! Students must now apply for a TFN online and have their identity verified through an interview at a participating Australia Post office. Unfortunately, the school can no longer accept student applications. To apply and also to find out about participating Post Offices, visit Apply for a TFN Work Experience Opportunity for Year 10 BMG Students St John of God Hospital in Ballarat Date One week later than the school work experience week. Starts 29th June to 3rd July (middle week of mid term break). Only apply if you are available for these dates. There are two work experience positions Position 1 Nursing program Involves a range of time with a registered or enrolled nurse, a ward clerk, Services, rep and a registered nurse. Position 2 Variety Program Involves a range of experience in the Hospital including the cafeteria, sterilizing department, health information services, environmental services and hydrotheraphy. How to apply: Write a short application based on the following questions What are your career goals? How will the work experience be of benefit to you and why are you a good candidate for this position. State which position you are applying for in your application. This must be submitted by Monday 9th February by 3.15pm at the Careers Office. Place applications in the red Careers Letterbox located on the ground floor.

3 News from Monash News from the Arts Faculty The Faculty of Arts has a wide range of offerings including languages, communications and media, global studies, performing arts, behavioural studies, as well as other study areas. Bachelor of Global Studies This course suits students with an interest in humanitarian goals and the desire to make a change in the global challenges we face. Study areas include International Relations, International Studies, and Global Cultural Literacies, and students are required to complete some study abroad. Brand new state of the art facilities worth $2 million are being built this year including TV and radio studios and a news room. Students are encouraged to complete a journalism internship. Performance students are given one onone tuition and learn from some of Australia s most gifted and talented musicians. 4 UMAT2015 Year 12 students are to please note that applications to sit the UMAT2015 are now open and registrations close on Friday 5 June 2015 at 5.00pm sharp! The UMAT2015 will be held on Wednesday 29 July 2015, and the results will be available late September Students should also note that results from UMAT2015 can only be used for undergraduate medicine or health science courses beginning in 2016 but not2017. Students should not register for UMAT2015 unless they are planning to apply for a course commencing in 2016 and they meet the eligibility criteria specified in the UMAT2015 Information Booklet. For more information, and/or to apply visit UMAT2015 or call (03) Year 11 students may not sit the UMAT2015 and should they do so, their results will be cancelled and they may not be allowed to sit the UMAT again. Students sitting the UMAT should note that candidates who do not possess a current passport, driver s licence or learner s permit are strongly recommended to apply for an Australian Keypass or Australian Proof of Age Card as soon as possible as no other forms of ID will be accepted. Candidates without correct identification will not be permitted to sit UMAT2015 and will be turned away. 5 ISAT 2015 International students intending to apply for entry into a certain health courses in 2016 are required to sit the ISAT International Student Admissions Test. New Master of Translation from 2015 From 2015 the Master of Translation is a new graduate program for Mandarin Chinese English bilinguals to be offered by the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This program will prepare students for a career as a professional translator or for work in international relations, government, commerce, law. Although the Master of Translation will only offered for Chinese (Mandarin) and English languages, the is considering introducing other Asian and European languages in the future. The Master of Translation program can be considered as a graduate option following a Bachelor of Arts or completion of a Chinese major at undergraduate level.
