30 International Existing Building Code The International Existing Building Code has been adopted in 41 states and territories Includes either statewide adoption or adoption by local jurisdiction Code year adopted ranges from the 2003 to 2012 IEBC

33 IECC Existing Building Proposals Goal Clarify the IECC requirements for additions, alteration, renovations and repairs. Goal Develop a separate section for existing buildings within the IECC that can be expanded in the future

34 Commonality in Proposals CE4-13: SEHPCAC proposal builds off the existing IECC Section C Existing building language Creates new Chapter 5 Existing Buildings Adds a provision requiring that buildings be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. Adds language on new and replacement materials that allows the use of like materials for repairs. Defines a repair and allows work on nondamaged components necessary for the required repair of damaged components to occur without needing to meet the alteration requirements of the IECC. Exempts ordinary repairs from needing a permit

R a non-residential exception CE1, Part II Reorganizes Sect. 101 to improve clarity CE15, Part II Revises exception 5 in Sect. R to clarify roofing requirements Adds definitions

54 Proposals to Clean up and Clarify the EB Provisions Smaller revisions, continued CE 11, Part II Adds new exception for single pane windows with surface applied window film CE16, Part II Adds sentence at end of requiring attic bypasses to be sealed prior to installation of insulation. CE20, Part II Clarifies that any space or portion thereof being converted to a dwelling unit from another occupancy must comply with code. exception allows 10% inc. in total UA or simulated performance when used

Contains current exceptions and new ones Env. leakage test not req d for alterations Clarifies duct leakage testing requirement

57 Proposal to Consolidate all EB provisions to the IEBC CE19 deletes the Change of occupancy, Change of space conditioning and Mixed occupancy provisions from the IECC and puts them into the IEBC.

58 Proposals related to historic buildings CE6, Part II deletes the historic building language from the IECC and moves it to the IEBC. CE7, Part II Revises historic buildings from an outright exemption to clarify that the IECC is not mandatory. Adds definition of historic building to Ch. 2.

59 Proposals related to historic buildings CE8, Part II historic buildings shall comply with IECC to the extent that it doesn t impact historic integrity of building adds def. of historic building to Ch. 2. CE 9, Part II requires historic buildings to comply, with exceptions for building envelope, lighting, listed interiors, impact to historic integrity. adds def. of historic building to Ch. 2. CE10, Part II historic buildings shall comply except when historic integrity is impacted.
