2 From the Pastor s Desk - Year of St. Joseph While I am away on missionary work in Mexico I leave these three tidbits of thoughts on family life. Enjoy! Children are natural mimics who act like their parents, despite every effort to teach them good manners. A second grader came home from school and said to her mother, Mom, guess what? We learned how to make babies today. The mother, more than a little surprised, asked fearfully, that s interesting. How do you make babies? It s simple, replied the girl, You just change y to I and add es. Don t worry so much about the kind of world you are leaving for your kids. Worry much more about the kind of kids you are leaving the world. (Fr. Stan Fortuna, CFR at a College Youth Conference) God s blessing in this new week of grace. Pax et Bonum, Fr. Jeff Rachel s Vineyard Retreat: Pope Francis says, God is always waiting for you. 3 August 8, th Sunday in Ordinary Time The lens through which we view life makes a difference. It also determines who we choose to learn from and what we allow to shape our thoughts and feelings. For many, life is simply what it appears to be, a given that either through evolution or some other means just came to be. There is no apparent rhyme or reason to things and things can be dissected and understood only in terms of what they empirically present. To the person using this lens, a tree is a tree and a flower is a flower. Their composition and existence can be understood only to the extent that current human knowledge allows. Through this lens, what gives life purpose and meaning? This lens has an essentially unknown beginning and definite end. Once those are accepted, the middle becomes some kind of pursuit of happiness, with values and principles being things that are self-created and found acceptable. But there is a Divine lens that also exists and deserves mention. It is found when one stumbles upon faith and begins to see things differently. This lens is of God and reveals a Divine Energy and Life that flows through and in all things. Faith then shows us that all that lives come from this one Source of Love. This is the only true lens that can give human beings the purpose and meaning they desperately need. From this perspective, all of life is much more than what is immediately apparent! It now tells and reveals a story about God generous, creative, and unconditional love! The unfolding of the human story is the unfolding of God s story. What meaning our lives have when they are viewed as a part of God s love affair with humanity! We are indeed special. The lens of our faith asks us to learn from Jesus Christ. Jesus, as the real Bread of Life, shows us our eternal destiny and completes and frames our lives. It is only in allowing ourselves to be taught by Jesus, that faith, hope, and love take on much greater importance. All the relationships in our lives are now structured and ordered using God s primary commandment of love. Jesus, then, is not just some man who lived at some point in history. Jesus is the incarnate Son of God who shows us the way, the truth, and the life. Using this lens changes things up a great deal. Looking at the creation that surrounds you and the special unique people you love, what is God trying to teach you about His love for you and the eternal life He wants you to have? LPi August 11 - St. Clare St. Clare of Assisi was the first woman to practice the life of entire poverty as taught by St. Francis. Placed by him at the head of a few companions in the small convent of San Damiano, she governed her community for forty-two years thus founding at the gates of Assisi the Order of Poor Clares. Their Rule included austerities hitherto unknown in monasteries of women. They went barefoot, slept on the ground, kept perpetual abstinence and made poverty the basis of their lives. St. Clare died on August 11, 1253, and was canonized two years after her death. Patron: Embroiderers; eye disease; eyes; gilders; goldsmiths; gold workers; good weather; laundry workers; needle workers; Santa Clara Indian Pueblo; telegraphs; telephones; television; television writers. Symbols: Chalice and host; tall cross; Monstrance; lily; ciborium. Often Portrayed as: Woman with a monstrance in her hand; Nun holding a vessel containing the holy Eucharist.

Peter and Paul August Fr. Emilio Rossi IVE is the missionary priest who will be with visiting our parish. Fr. Emilio is from the Institute of the Incarnate Word. The Institute of the Incarnate Word uses the funds collected from the mission appeals to care for the disabled, the elderly, and the sick, provide homes for the poor and for abandoned children, manage schools and educational institutions in rural areas in developing countries, and promote pastoral formation of our missionaries related to human, intellectual, and spiritual development. Present in 40 countries, our most challenging missions are in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guyana, Iraq, Palestine (Gaza), Papua New Guinea, Peru, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Ukraine among others. The collected funds will be used for the day-to-day support for missionaries, to supply material goods, to finish projects, and to meet the basic needs in rural areas where we work. The children, the elderly, the sick, the poor, the abandoned, the handicapped, and the suffering will benefit from these funds. Your support funds the basic needs - such as food and medicine, pastoral works, vehicles to arrive to remote rural areas where there are no roads, to build seminaries and churches to provide hope where the Catholic faith is a minority or does not exist at all for the enrichment of the evangelization program around the world. Flowers on the Altar this weekend are for the Glory of God and in Memory of Paul and Eileen Dunn Ss. Peter and Paul Gift Shop will be having a JEWELRY SALE This weekend 8/7-8/8 All items $20 and under!!!

As she ran, she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!" As she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again.
