19 CD: Virtues in Us 19 Quotation Songs Photocopies of quotation sheet on Courtesy Colored pencils for writing and coloring Individual My Virtues Growth Book folders Photocopies of visual aid or art activity sheets, according to age Glue, Scissors, paper of various colors Plain cards or construction paper to fold into cards Small pieces of paper with Thank you printouts (optional activity for 3-year olds) Decorations for cards (glitter, stickers, dried flowers, etc ) CD: Virtues in Us Children s Virtues Songs for the appropriate age Courtesy
20 Lesson 8 Sample Plan 1. Greet the children. 2. Play Courtesy quotation and sing along with actions to encourage memorization. 3. Pose the conversation questions and encourage the children to share their knowledge. Suggest relevant answers to conversation questions if the children s responses are inadequate (see Developing Understanding). 4. Do the Courtesy art Activity. 3-4 year-olds: Pass out photocopies of the visual aid (See Resource Materials B). Invite the children to color them. 5 and up: Copy the Courtesy art activity sheets1 and 2 (See Resource Materials B) such that the four drawings in sheet 2 can be cut into small pictures (approximately 3cmx3cm). Have children cut the small pictures and color them. The children then glue the small pictures onto the crown strips. The crown strips are cut and stapled together to make a crown of courtesy. The facilitator can assist in the stapling of the crown strips so the crown fits the child s head. If the crown doesn t fit, colored paper cut in different shapes can be used instead of or in addition to the courtesy pictures to decorate the crown. Alternatively, do the following Thank you Card Activity. Have the children make Thank you cards. For the younger children, provide a printout of the words, Thank you for them to paste onto the card. Older children may write the words themselves. 5. Review the song from lesson Read/Tell an age-appropriate (Resource Material A). 7. End the class.
