1 2013 Seoul Conference on the Law of the Sea Global Challenges and Freedom of Navigation 1 May (Wed) 3 May (Fri), 2012 Information for Participants 1. Accommodations and Conference Hotel Imperial Palace Seoul Hotel - The conference hotel is the Imperial Palace Seoul Hotel. For more details on the hotel, please see: - Address: 640 Eon-ju Ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Korea - Phone: Check-in: Regular check-in time is 2:00pm local time. Early check-in is subject to availability at the time of your arrival, and you might have to wait for at least an hour. If you check in before 9:00am, a fee equal to 100% of the daily room rate will apply. Should you request early check-in, please contact Ms. Olivia Lee in advance. - Check-out: Regular check-out time is 12:00pm (noon) local time. Late check-out will also incur an additional charge. For late check-out after 6:00pm, a full daily room rate will apply. Should you request late check-out, please contact Ms. Olivia Lee in advance. - Complimentary daily breakfast is included with your room booking. Complimentary Internet access will be also provided. - Participants are responsible for all additional charges to their hotel rooms. The hotel will maintain a separate account for your personal or incidental expenses, such as room services, laundry, refreshment bar services, and other services outside of planned conference activities. Please make sure to settle your personal account directly with the hotel upon checking out.
2 2. Conference Venue - The conference will take place at the Selena Hall on the 7 th floor of the conference hotel. - Wireless Internet access will be provided in the hall. 3. Transportation A. KAL Limousine Bus - From Incheon International Airport Bus Route/Number: 6704 Limousine buses run regularly, every 30 minutes. The first bus will leave the airport at 4:58am, and the last bus at 10:42pm. It will take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to the hotel. Bus Station 1. Gate 04 04B BUS STOP 2. Gate 11 11A BUS STOP Gates KAL Bus Station To Imperial Palace Hotel Arrival (1F) Get off the bus at the first station from the Incheon International Airport. Tickets Cost: 15,000 (One-way; please prepare Korean Won in advance to avoid inconvenience.) The KAL bus counter is located in the Passenger Terminal as you leave the Customs area, open from 6:00AM to 10:00PM. You can buy either single or return tickets. You may also pay directly in the bus. - To Incheon International Airport The first bus will leave the hotel at 5:27am, and the last bus at 6:13pm. You can reserve at the hotel front desk. 2
3 B. Taxi - You could use the taxi service available at the airport. Black taxis are the deluxe taxis (called mobeom), which are more costly but known to offer better service than regular cabs. Silver, white or orange cabs are regular taxis. A one-way taxi journey from the airport to the hotel takes about 40 minutes to 1 hour and costs approximately USD 90 (KRW 100,000) for deluxe taxis and USD 70 (KRW 70,000~80,000) for regular taxis. 4. Social Events - On Wednesday 1 May, a Welcoming Reception will be held from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Dubhe Hall on the 7 th floor of the hotel. It will be a great opportunity to meet other speakers before the conference. - A 30-minute cocktail reception will be held at Selena Hall from 6:00pm on Thursday 2 May and from 6:30pm on Friday 3 May, and will be followed by a full-course dinner. 5. Arrangements A. Registration - A registration desk will be opened at the hotel. Registration will commence on 1 May from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in front of the Selena Hall on the 7 th floor of the hotel and will be available during the conference. All participants who arrive on or before 1 May are advised to register their names before the welcoming reception and obtain their name tags and conference materials. B. Meals - Lunches and dinners will be provided only during the official conference period, which begins with the welcoming reception on 1 May and ends with the lunch after the optional tour on 4 May. (Lunch on 4 May will be provided only when you are participating in the tour, as we will have lunch at the tour site.) Unfortunately, all participants who arrive earlier and/or leave later than the conference period should pay themselves for their extra meals. C. Language - The entire conference will be conducted in English. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided from and into English and Korean. D. Dress Guidelines - Business attire. For military, if you are speaking at the conference, you should be in uniform for your talk; but you can be in uniform or civilian clothing for receptions and dinners. Military attendees who are not speakers can either be in uniform or civilian clothing. 3
4 6. Optional Tour - An optional tour program, hosted by the Korea Coast Guard, is organized after the conference on Saturday 4 May. All attendees will leave the hotel at 9:30am and take a short excursion to the Korean Coast Guard in Incheon, a coastal city near Seoul. The provisional tour schedule can be found below. - Should you intend to join, please contact Ms. Olivia Lee in advance for further arrangement or register on 1 May at the registration desk. Climate - Spring in South Korea begins in late March. In May the average high temperature is 19 /66 and the average low temperature is 12 /54. The weather at this time of year is usually warm and sunny, with a chance of light rain. Therefore, it would be wise to bring an umbrella and a windbreaker. 8. Electricity V, European-style with 2 round plugs. Most hotels will supply an adaptor, however, we recommend you carry your own adaptor to avoid inconvenience should one not be available. 9.
