1 This 0,000 sf gallery for contemporary art is located in New York s West Chelsea neighborhood; the building s exposed concrete façade has the grittiness to resonate with surrounding industrial structures but also the elegance and craftsmanship to create a refined identity for the gallery

2 The neighborhood s industrial heritage inspired the simplicity and monumentality of the building s design which echoes the disciplined forms of surrounding warehouse buildings

3 The building is the first LEED certified commercial art gallery in the U.S.; the LEED Gold project includes five green roof spaces, premium efficiency mechanical systems, high performance lighting and controls, maximized daylighting, and locally and responsibly sourced materials

4 The exposed concrete façade is created using 8" southern pine tongue and groove boards; the teak storefront creates a warm contrast with the cool concrete

7 The museum-quality building was conceived specifically for large installations and exhibitions of works by estate artists, requiring environments for art that are diverse in their scale, proportion, materiality, and lighting

8 The main gallery has,000 sf of column-free space; concrete floors and four large sawtooth skylights bring the building s industrial language inside

9 The main gallery can be subdivided into smaller spaces depending on the needs of the art

10 Adjacent to the main gallery, a smaller exhibition space has a more subdued feel with travertine floors and a semi-transparent laylight

11 Exposed concrete continues on the interior, forming the entry spaces and atrium stair

12 The dramatic atrium stair connects the building's five levels; Rebar and form savers for the stair runs had to be integrated into the atrium walls during construction, requiring precise planning and execution

13 Stair runs contrast the atrium s monolithic walls with their smooth finish and delicate appearance

14 The atrium stair is open to each level of the building creating a counterpoint to the restrained exhibition spaces

15 Public exhibition space continues on the second floor with a more intimate gallery; the,000 sf exhibition space has a ' ceiling and white oak flooring

16 The upstairs galleries and showrooms are lit artificially and naturally from the side by large vertical windows
