Resilience is the ability to thrive, personally and professionally, even during times of high pressure, rapid change and adversity. Thrive More than education, more than experience, more than training, a person s level of resilience determines who succeeds and who fails. That s true in the cancer ward, it s true in the Olympics, and it s true in the boardroom. Dean Becker. (2002). How resilience works. Harvard Business Review, May, Thrive Training Ltd 2
Resilience is not a fixed characteristic (like personality), it s something you can learn and strengthen over time. We can all develop resilience, and we can help our children develop it as well. It involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned over time. American Psychological Association (APA) Thrive Training Ltd 3
In a world of increasing demands and growing uncertainty, resilience has never been more important. Thrive Training Ltd 4
Leading employers believe that resilience will become a key attribute for future employees. : HR Magazine Thrive Training Ltd 5
Thrive offers a comprehensive programme for promoting resilience supported by the Resilience Quotient Inventory (RQi ), skills-based workshops, 1:1 coaching and physiological stress monitoring. This course was excellent one of the best training courses I have attended in the last year. The trainer was brilliant and the additional bonus on the course was a Personalised Resilience Quotient Inventory Report for all delegates. Thrive Training Ltd 6
All our programmes are based around the Seven Elements of Resilience which are measured in the RQi. Thrive Training Ltd 7
The RQi is a new psychometric that provides a detailed measure of resilience for individuals, teams and organisations Scores based on validated questionnaires from leading psychologists around the world plus our own scales The RQi measures beliefs and behaviours that are proven to protect against stress and burnout Thrive Training Ltd 8
Scores are displayed across Seven Elements of Resilience, 27 Sub- Scales and two outcomes measures (stress and wellbeing). Individual scores are compared to mean scores from our sample population of working adults in the UK. Thrive Training Ltd 9
Respondents receive detailed commentary on their scores as well as personalised tips and techniques for building even greater resilience. Thrive Training Ltd 10
Sickness absence Subjective Wellbeing Self-rated Performance Our analysis shows that high scores on the RQi predict: 120% Low stress levels Low sickness absence High Subjective Wellbeing and High work performance 100% 80% 60% 40% 20% 0% -20% -40% Stress -60% -80% Based on a representative sample of working adults in the UK (n = 507) who completed the RQi in Oct- Dec The core RQi subscales are: Meaning and Purpose, Engagement, Perseverance, Learning and Growth, Optimism, Self-Confidence, Personal Control and Self-Compassion (Critchlow and Edwards, 2016, unpublished.) Thrive Training Ltd 11
The RQi offers a number of unique benefits on Seven Elements of Resilience and 27 Sub-Scales (personal scores v. sample population) to help raise self-awareness and prompt changes on how to build even greater resilience based on personal scores via online guides and video clips to promote adoption of new habits and long-term behaviour change Thrive Training Ltd 12
The RQi has a role to play in several areas of Human Resources (HR) Management: Leading employers and key opinion leaders are already using the RQi Talent Management Leadership Development Recruitment Change Management Personal Development Thrive Training Ltd 13
Our resilience training programme is supported by 4 tutor-led workshops, chosen according to employee needs. Thrive Training Ltd 14
1 day workshop Unleash your Strengths 1 day workshop Introduction to Mindfulness Half day workshop Resilience for Leaders 1 day workshop Models of stress and resilience: The 7 Elements of Resilience Manage the signs and symptoms of stress Use solution-focused coping skills (e.g. problem solving) Learn to manage emotions Challenge and minimise stressful thoughts Build positive beliefs (e.g. optimism and self-confidence) Identify your signature strengths with the Strengthscope TM and/or the Values in Action (VIA) Survey Identify ways to build on your strengths Manage strengths in overdrive Set goals and build motivation to achieve them The principles and benefits of mindfulness Stepping out of automatic pilot The body scan meditation Mindfulness of breathing Introducing the Three minute breathing space Recommended Mindfulness techniques for daily practice Understand the role of the manager in team resilience Use the HSE Management Standards to identify stress points Identify the early warning signs of stress in your team Use employee engagement strategies to boost resilience Learn from case studies Use coaching techniques to support your people
We offer a bespoke resilience programme for teams: 1:1 with team leader & sponsors Introductory Seminar ½ day With whole team Access to RQi questionnaire Via online link On-line learning based on individual needs/interests 1:1 sessions with RQi Coach (x3) Group Workshops (x2) Based on outcome of team RQi Report Physiological stress testing + 1:1 Support Repeat RQi + 1:1s Review outcomes 6 Thrive 8 months Training later Ltd with team leader 16
As part of the team resilience programme we offer physiological stress monitoring which provides a highly objective measure of stressors in the workplace based on: 72 hour Heart Rate Monitoring We map real-life stress responses and recovery patterns using a small digital heart monitor (the Firstbeat Bodyguard system) linked to an online diary. The recording shows how your body reacts to stressful events and how well you recover. Cortisol profile This tells us about the long-term effects of demands on your hormonal system. The profile requires four saliva samples in the course of a day. Thrive Training Ltd 17
A real life example a 24hr stress profile - measured using the Bodyguard system shows good management of stress during the day and good recovery at night. Sample Profile (24 hr period) *In collaboration with the University of Westminster. Thrive Training Ltd 18
The following 24 hrs with the same subject shows good management of stress during the day but poor recovery at night, in part due to client entertainment (with alcohol) in the evening. Sample Profile (24 hr period) Thrive Training Ltd 19
We can offer one-to-one consultations via our specialist network at the University of Westminster. Nutrition Mindfulness Fitness Physiotherapy Thrive Training Ltd 20
