The topics cover among others Indonesian arts, ways of life, and lifestyles Asian Studies 2 3 This course aims to enable the students to explore and learn various issues in politics, economics, literature, culture, and development of different Asian regions. Particular emphasis is given on contemporary issues in Southeast Asia. Students are expected to present their views and knowledge on some related issues. Semiotics 2 3 This course aims to enable the students to understand basic concepts of semiotics like sign, signifier, signified, referent, index, symbol, etc. After completing this course, the students are expected to be able to apply the concepts in simple text analysis (written, visual, and practices). Basic Paradigm of Cultural Sciences 2 5 This course aims to enable the students to understand the basic thoughts in cultural sciences, to know the important figures in cultural sciences, and to see the interconnectedness of cultural aspects in everyday life. The topics cover among others arts, sports, media, music, foods, and clothing. Linguistics This course aims to enable the students to understand the basic components of Linguistics: Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, and Semantics. Students will learn the organs of speech, sound patterns, the production of speech sounds, phonetic notations and phonological rules in Phonology; morphemes, types of morphemes, morphological construction and word formation process in Morphology; parts of speech, basic syntactic structure, syntactic devices, and basic concept of TG Grammar in Syntax; and systems on meaning, types of meaning, sense & relations, and semantic features in Semantics. Literary Genre This course aims to enable the students to recognize the basic elements of interpretive literature, to understand how these elements are employed, and to make a personal response to literary works. Emphasis is given on useful topics for students final projects or theses, such as error analysis, conversation analysis, context, etc. Activities in class include presentation and class discussion. Literary Genre This course aims to provide students with knowledge on the characteristics of various literary genres and subgenres. The students will also be given the opportunity to apply the knowledge in an analysis of the literary works of each genre. The topics cover modern and contemporary works. Basic Principles of Language Teaching & Learning 2 2 This course aims to enable the students to understand the principles of effective business communication as practiced by the world s big companies and to apply them especially in conveying written and oral business messages. The topics include the foundations of business communication, principles of effective business writing, and principles of effective oral business presentation. 2 2 This course aims to enable the students to understand various methods and principles of language teaching and learning as they are implemented in classroom settings. The topics include British monarchy/government, multiculturalism, gender issues, youth subcultures, media, film, advertisements, etc. American Studies 2 4 This course aims to enable the students to understand American values and their practices by which the students can think and apply the insights to see their own culture and society critically. The topics include American values (individualism, equality, material wealth, multiculturalism, etc.) in business, ethnicity, pop culture, education, media, sports, family & social life. 17 Australian Studies 2 5 The course aims to enable the Page 5 of 27

The topics include Rationalism, Empiricism, Idealism, Political Philosophy, Utilitarianism, Phenomenology, Existentialism, Post Modernism, etc. American Philosophy 2 5 This course aims to enable the students to understand various philosophical thoughts from the 17 th century to the 21 st century (Early American Philosophy, Classical American Philosophy, and Modern American Philosophy) and the influence of those thoughts on the growth, and the development of the sciences in those centuries. Spoken This course aims to enable the students to understand and handle a variety of simple, basic, social, communicative tasks. The topics cover personal background and needs, personal needs, basic social activities such as making appointments, ordering goods, describing things, asking for & giving directions, etc. The listening tasks include listening to description, narration, & interviews, etc. The speaking tasks include initiating, sustaining, closing a general conversation, etc. Written This course aims to enable the students to understand simple texts and write narrative and descriptive paragraphs with minimal errors in terms of grammar, vocabulary and mechanics. They cover personal topics on lifestyle, tourism, traveling, entertainment, etc. Grammar This course aims to enable the students to master the essential grammatical aspects to be applied in comprehending and producing sentences. The topics cover verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, nouns, pronouns, adverbs, modals and coordinating conjunctions, including sentence types of simple and compound sentences. Page 7 of 27

Written This course aims to enable the students to understand more sophisticated texts and write descriptive essays (examples, process, and classifications). The topics cover human interests. Grammar This course aims to enable the students to master more complex grammatical aspects and apply them productively in constructing sentences. The topics cover noun clauses, adjective clauses, adverb clauses, gerunds and infinitives, conditionals and subjunctives as used in complex and compound-complex sentences. Pronunciation 2 2 This course aims to enable the students to recognize and apply aspects of pronunciation correctly. The topics cover sounds, rhythms, stresses, intonation, etc. Spoken This course aims to enable the students to recognize main ideas and details of various short talks and to present ideas and arguments in Page 8 of 27

The listening task is listening to short and extended talks and the speaking task is delivering public speeches. The topics cover social and cultural issues. EPT This course aims to prepare the students to take various Proficiency Tests (EPTs) at the intermediate level. The topics include testtaking strategies in all five areas of EPT: reading, structure, listening, writing, and speaking; as well as analysis of question types, and extensive practice to succeed in most EPTs. Spoken This course aims to enable the students to recognize the main ideas and details of various longer & more sophisticated talks and to participate persuasively in formal debate. The topics cover current political, economic, legal issues, etc. The listening task is listening to talks in debate settings and the speaking tasks include stating and defending ideas in debate settings. 31 Written This course aims to enable the Page 9 of 27

Directing for Stage 4 4 This course aims to enable the students to acquire the basic knowledge of stage directing and to apply it in a one-act play performance. The topics include directorial vision, artistic concept, prompt book construction, etc., and their implementation in a performance. Writing for Adults 4 6 This course aims to enable the students to understand the basic art of fiction writing and to produce short stories and/or novellas/novels. The students are required to do service learning to promote smallscale/home industries to apply what they have learned in a meaningful context. Screenplay Writing Subtitling and Dubbing 2 8 This course aims to provide the students with the basic skills of screenplay writing. The topics include building screen scenes, characters, conflicts, dialogs, treatments.
