Cumulative Grade Point Average: High school / secondary grade point averages are calculated as indicated in the NAIA Published Standards for international academic standards ( created in consultation with the International Student Records Advisory Committee (ISRAC). The NAIA uses cumulative grade scores and whenever possible relies on the indigenous cumulative high school calculation and then converts to the U.S. comparable grade average. When not available, individual grades are converted line-by-line to formulate a cumulative high school grade average. University grade averages are computed based on the school s cumulative grade average when available, otherwise it is calculated line-by-line or by finding the indigenous grade average and converting that to the U.S. comparable grade average. Calculating Conversions: Transfer credit from international universities that are determined to be comparable to regionally accredited U.S. institutions are converted to U.S. comparable credits to apply NAIA transfer student rules. s from institutions not considered comparable to US regionally accredited institutions do not count as transfer credits or apply towards credits earned in the eligibility process. The NAIA converts international credits based on the notion that a full U.S. course load is approximately U.S. semester credits for one year (or roughly credits per semester). One year of attendance at an international university or post-secondary institution counts as two semesters or three quarters for the purposes of computing the duration of eligibility. After the credits are converted, the NAIA Eligibility Center determines for how many semesters (quarters) the student identified (either through intercollegiate athletics or through enrollment in sufficient course load), resulting in a determination of how many Terms of Attendance a student has used and thus has remaining (students have 10 semesters or 15 quarters of attendance). Available vs. Applicable Available credit represents credits that meet the NAIA definition of institutional credit for the purposes of eligibility rules, but applicable credit indicates the reviewer s recommendation for acceptance of transfer credit.
