Vocabulary: Learning words pertaining to services and how to attain it when something is not working properly. Learning how to ask for something politely. Grammar: Konjunktiv II: könnten and würden. Verbs with various prefixes: aus-, zu-, an-, aufmachen. Activities: Listening to authentic conversations on CD and checking understanding. Playing the role of customer and waitress to use würden and könnten in pairs/groups. Test: Kapitel 12 9 minutes 1

2 13 th Oct 11 th Nov Unit 13: Neue Kleider Vocabulary: Learning vocabulary regarding clothes and consolidating with adjectives to indicate like and dislike. Learning how to compare things and express what one can do. Learning how to describe an item that one has lost. Learning how to ask for information at a department store. Grammar: Demonstrative Pronouns: der, das, die/ diese, dieser, dieses. Frageartikel: welche, welches, welcher? Comparitive/Superlative: gut, gern, viel... Personal Pronouns in the Dative: mir, dir. Verbs taking Dative: gefallen, gehören, passen, stehen. Activities: As an introduction to the topic: Clothes, students bring two words pertaining to clothing written on a flashcard and ask one another in class. Using PPP: Die Kleidung and Kleider to practice new vocabulary. Practising and consolidating through on-line games using IWB: : Kleider Picture Belt, Generation Game, Ich trage Aztec Quiz, Treasure Hunt. Writing a dialogue between two friends talking about clothes. Revising the verb: gefallen through PPP: Gefallen and help students structure sentences in pairs or groups. Writing sentences with verbs taking dative. Using PPP: Komparativ/Superlativ to introduce students to concept and practice in pairs/groups. Sending a copy of PPP: Demonstrativpronomen to students as preparation for following lesson. Using PPP: Im Kaufhaus as an aid for students to work in groups and converse with one another and then produce a conversation in writing. Test: Verben im Perfekt und Präteritum. 16 minutes 2

Learning what to say on various special occasions. Grammar: Revise Perfekt. Ordinal numbers. Personal Pronouns in the Accusative. Conjunction: denn. Conjugation of the verb: werden. Activities: Listening to authentic German on CD. Revising Perfekt through PPP: Perfekt at home and in class. Students ask other about their birthdays to practice ordinal numbers in class and months and fill in a table/handout. Using ich liebe dich to learn personal pronouns in the Accusative - handout. Working in pairs/groups to construct sentences with denn. Writing an invitation. Writing a message declining or accepting an invitation. Evaluating other s or message using check list. Relating about your last trip using Perfekt. Revising vocabulary pertaining to members of the family and learning new ones. Learning how to describe different types of families and their accomodation. Grammar: Conjunction: weil. Perfekt of separable verbs: abholen, aufstehen... Perfekt of verbs which do not add ge- : erleben, verpassen, bekommen, passieren... Genetiv with names: Julias Mutter. Prepositions: von, bei. Activities: Listening to authentic texts and photo story on CD. Using PPP: Perfekt Wiederholung 3-5 to revise and use Perfekt and adverbs of time. Using PPP: Präteritum to explain the difference between Perfekt and Präteritum and how to use it in sentences. Students construct sentences using weil in pairs/groups and then share with rest of the class handout. Writing an in pairs about a past holiday. Using check list to assess work and learn : AFL. Writing a message to your friend. Test: Wechselpräpositionen. Culture: Learning about different typical German feasts by looking up information and devising a project file, PPP, chart or model to be presented during the Family Day Fair held in May. 18 5

Learning about the typical German Currywurst through Herbert Grönemeyers song. Learning adjectives to describe the taste of various foods. Learning vocabulary used when one is invited over for dinner. Grammar: Indefinite pronouns in the nominative and accusative. Revision of adverbs of time: nie, oft, immer... Activities: Revise food topic using mind mapping on board. Watching a video regarding typical German food: ure=related Students ask one another about what they eat. Listening to spoken German on CD and checking understanding through various exercises. Reading and then writing a conversation at a restaurant followed by role-play in pairs/groups. Learning what one should do at the workplace in various situations. Grammar: Konjunktiv II: sollte. Conjunction: wenn. Activities: Revising jobs and professions through PPP: Berufe and handout. Listening to photo story and spoken German on CD and working out exercises to check understanding. Students ask one another questions: Was machst du, wenn? in order to practice conjunction. Role play: Situations at the workplace in pairs or groups. Writing telephone conversations at the workplace. Working out handout with wenn clauses.
