5 BIOGRAPHIES Laraine McBean, Director, MITIE Your host for today, Laraine McBean is Director of MITIE in Scotland. Laraine heads up MITIE Environmental + for Scotland & Northern England. Coming from an accountancy background Laraine was a Director with Olscot Limited a privately-owned Scottish Building Support Services Company which was acquired by MITIE in October Laraine has been influential in the growth of MITIE within Private & Public sectors delivering FM-compliant and sustainable service solutions to Business, Industry & Government. Noel Whittingham, MITIE Waste & Environmental Noel has been a key player in MITIE s waste management service for more than 20 years. He is the architect of MITIE s revolutionary Green Kitchen project, an initiative designed to address the challenges of rapidly-changing Scottish regulations in food waste management. Robert Weir, Zero Waste Scotland Robert is a programme manager and specialist in resource efficiency, waste management, supply change management, sustainable procurement, climate change mitigation and environmental behaviour change. He is a Member of the 2020 Delivery Group providing advice and support to the Scottish Government on business environmental matters, policy and legislation. Ian Masterton, Leeds City Council Ian is head of pest control at Leeds City Council. He has over 30 years experience in handling pest control within local government and brings a valuable insight into the world of Environmental Compliance in the sensitive field of pest control.
6 BIOGRAPHIES Douglas Jardine, MITIE Landscapes Douglas heads up MITIE Landscapes business in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North East of England. He is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor by profession and has previously held senior positions within FM and Construction as Commercial Director with ISS and Head of Commercial with CBES. Part of Douglas s role is heading up MITIE s Scottish winter services, providing gritting and snow clearing services to many of Scotland s biggest businesses. Frank Hughes, Beechcroft Solicitors, Edinburgh Frank is Managing Partner in the insurance litigation and dispute resolution department. He specialises in disease litigation, including asbestos-related diseases; HAVS and NIHL and he conducts general PI claims, including those of maximum severity. Frank also tutors in judicial review and civil advocacy and is accredited by the Law Society as a specialist in personal injury law. John McGovern, Beechcroft Solicitors, Edinburgh John heads up the Regulatory Unit in Scotland having joined DAC Beachcroft Scotland in November He regularly conducts the defence of safety, health and environmental prosecutions. He is a Solicitor Advocate. Prior to joining he was a Principal in his own practice for almost twenty years, specialising in the investigation, preparation and representation of criminal cases before the Sheriff Courts in Scotland. He tutors in advanced Criminal Law at Glasgow University.
